I'm a bit out of touch with 912s these days but it looks like your engine is running a Bosch 009 dissy, notorious for producing flat spots at low revs (usually around 2-2500 rpm) and not having the right advance curves, though cheap and easy to install if the original dissy (050 I think) is worn.



They're mechanical/centrifugal advance rather than vacuum like the correct one should be. The vac take offs in the base of the carbs have been plugged (little hoses with screws in the end in your picture).

Get a proper dissy in and I think you'll find the running will be much improved. An 009 just advances and retards on engine speed rather than load and was originally designed for stationary/generator engines.

Your right regarding the dizzy . It should be an 050 . I got a few bills with the car including one for a "Reprofiled 009 " but I'm now convinced that's not the one on the car . I've got an electronic one which I'll try to see if it improves matters .

Nice looking car Russ. You mention replacing the front shocks, what brand did you have in mind. I need to replace mine, any feedback in this area would be appreciated.

I thought the 050 was close but not quite right (as opposed to the 009, which is plain wrong).

Vintage speed sell an electronic version which looks like an interesting solution but perhaps ask PRS first.

Lovely looking car Russ - Burgundy's a great colour on an early car (especially with steel wheels).

Gave the car a good clean this week and fitted the bright Porsche and 912 scripts I picked up at Essen . I'm hoping to get a bright grille installed soon . Also fitted the electronic dizzy and that's really improved things . It still needs the carbs setting up and I'm going to book it in on a rolling road local to me . Still undecided wether to get the seats redone or go for a pair of Recaro reps but that's down to money at the moment . I'm looking for a engine sound deadening pad if anyone got one .
