That is a very nice finish and I love the distressed look. One concern I had with a restored badge is that it would be too "new" looking but that is just right.

Thanks for the kind comments. I am trying to get to a finish that is worthy of a concours car.
In fact, the new technique has produced better/smoother finish on the 'new' bars than on the original black bars. I am getting more confident working with the enamel now and I think finally got the colour of the orange and the black just about right and getting more defined edged as Yoda pointed out.

On badge two I replaced one of the black bars and part of one of the branches and I am happy the black matches the original (didn't know there were so many 'black' enamels) so it took just as long as the first badge (which I am going back to improve) so definitely 20+ hours work even yet. The branches are very tricky. I haven't tried doing the horse yet. That looks trickier still. The enamelling there is soooooo thin.

Based on this thread I have my first commission! I will post up the results.

I was just thinking that I could offer the front four top teeth in alternate black and orange bars for the 'committed' early 911 owner.

Really good work Mike and obviously need to have more patience than me to do it. It's tempting me to ask you to fill in the small part of missing orange enamel on my badge.

I'll just stick to white enamel for my teeth though thanks!

Mike, I sourced an orange bar badge for the car and whilst it looks great it is a reproduction one.

In the interests of helping you perfect the technique I'll send the red one up to you and see what you can do with it!

Now I see what you were talking about. Very nice work. BTW I dug out the original bonnet badge from Helga and as suspected it is a newer badge, nice "Patina" and no damage but red bars. Hence the swap to the blingy repro.

Responding off PM. I agree, the reworked badge is much nicer than my repo, which comparing the close ups has the PORSCHE in thinner letters.

The original badge I have has a detached pin, which I have. We use 3M VHB (Very High Bond) double sided tapes at work. The term hardly does this stuff justice, its incredible and stronger than brazing / solder. Might be an option for re-affixing pins without the need for heat and therefore discolouration.

I'll drop it off the first time I'm doon the coast.
