Removed the torque converter and clutch carrier today, and found that the clutch was well and truly stuck to the pressure plate and also stuck to the other side. So thats two good reasons for removing the box.

Took a trip up the M6 today to get my sporto box sorted by Mike Bainbridge. Thanks to Mikes expertise it is now sorted and ive learned alot about the box. It would seem a circlip had come off and the reverse shaft had gone past the point of no return.

Got a bit more done today, cleaned the clutch/torque converter housing and replaced the two oil seals and "o" ring. Also managed to get some grease into the release bearing. The box is ready to go onto the engine but all the tinware is away being bead blasted and powder coated so waiting on that now.

I havnt washed the car yet, it will be nice to drive it out of the garage and wash it.

Removed the oil tank in the week as it was looking a bit sad, have removed the soil to reveal the true condition and it doesnt look too bad. Is the tank mild steel copper plated then painted ? Was going to spray it with por15 but I'm open to suggestions.

Also cleaned up and painted the heater box thingies.

Looking good, the tank was indeed copper coated, try not to remove this when cleaning it up. I would think por would be fine. The tank has a mesh and baffel inside make sure no paint gets in there, also make sure you wash out the inside with loads of brake cleaner as there is no filter between the tank outlet and the main oil pump.

Thanks for the info John, I will proceed with caution.
I have used por15 before with good results and Im hoping it will give some protection to the tank as its in such a vulnerable position.
