Thanks for the positive comments fellas - glad to offer a bit of inspiration-

To anyone thinking of a trip - go for it - my previous longest trip was a day trip to Brighton (about 50 miles each way).

The trip to France was fairly spur of the moment - I spent the Saturday before going over the car and packing my spares colection.

We had no hotels booked although it is best to during August.

Bit of an adventure anyway.

Where to next....hmm...always liked the picture in the Denis Jenkinson book of the 356 with a Pyramid in the background

Steve

No Idea on MPG I'm afraid - litres, euros and dodgy mental arithmatic prevented calculation! 25- 30 would be a guess tho prob nearer 25 I suppose.

What a great journey! 600 miles in a day is fantastic, I don't usually do more than 450 if I can help it.
Makes me want to get out onto the road again.

Thats what its all about...great trip and pics 8) Glad to hear the 356 rewarded your faith! The car looks nice and period in that colour with that plate, very 'Jenks'! Looking forward to a Europe trip next year too hopefully. Its like a different country over there..

Are you running a tall 4th gear btw?

Thanks Jonny

It was a great trip thanks (esp now back to wet and windy Uk)

I might try going back via Monaco, Italian Lakes and the Alps next time (like speedsterboy).

The frogs really seemed to appreciate seeing the car on the road,
plenty of waving and even some videoing as they overtook, no probs with leaving the car at night- thankfully.

Only downside to the toll roads (apart from the money) was that if you did break down (say you were in a 911) was the speed of the traffic passing you, might make any necessary repairs 'hasty' to say the least.

There's always your Recovery service!

Don't know about 4 th gear - suspect it's stock for 62 - will look in the book and post.

Car has always been good at top end - will do 100+ on private roads.

Plan your trip at least a week before - your car will do great I'm sure.
