Not strictly true. Although my early car is garaged my 993 is not, it's locked behind gates in my garden and Hagerty were happy to insure that.

But Hagerty won't allow more than 5,000 miles. 2 trips to Europe in a year and you're over the limit!! More phoning.....

I contacted my Hagerty rep:

Hi Barry,

I confirmed with one of the UK guys, who says: " We offer a variety of limited mileage options. We are not restricted to offering a max of 5,000 miles per annum and try to tailor each policy to match the client's needs."

Harrumph!! Wouldn't budge from 5,000. She was a totally different experience to the bloke I first spoke to, who was sooooo willing and right there because of DDK. Mebbe try again??

Indeed! Although we're planning to be at the DDK C2C run about 10 days before the due date!

My folks have a place over in Tenerife so we pop over for some sun when possible.

Bit late perhaps, but all our cars are insured with RH Classic Insurance (www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk). If you talk really nicely to them they will sometimes not impose a mileage limitation and everything includes free European breakdown recovery. Between us in the office we have 14 cars insured with them and have done for many years. Great service and not yet found anyone that will get near the price.

Sorrry, didn't get very far with RH. Prefer to deal with a person on 't other end, rather than a bl889y website do dah....
NE Road up as like, went back to Hagar the Deadly and insisted on speaking with The Man Phil (not difficult) and we've ended up with a more than satisfactory conclusion, I'm pleased to say.
I'm still @ 5,000, but with the let-off that if, 2/3rds through the year it looks like its a bu883r, they'll charge me 'light' supplement, but in the meantime knocked off a good 20% on the quote they made me back in Feb!! Apparently, they've reviewed their premiums and regard prats like us as 'Reasonable Risks' accordingly, have dropped the anti. Can't be bad!!
So what did we learn, children? Talk to the peeps, rather than trade via a webcell, explain how hard they're being (round trip of 500 mls just to get anywhere for us poor peasants down yer), reassure them of DDK's excellence - not really needed - for keeping us all under control and therefore even better risks than they once thought, just Haggle with Hagerty!!

Herewith another recommendation for Hagerty. Just renewed (after swtching from AON) due to them being happy to insure my car at a London address when I need it to be there (not garaged, but locked behind large driveway gates) and for an agreed vaulation of 75k (they actually recommended an increase on this).

And to top it off I saved £100 on my premium
