Awesome find!
Bad news today - I killed the Volvo. Drove it down a flooded road and totally killed it. I thought it was unstoppable and we were going to be together forever

Hang on a minute: this being a diesel -relatively simple beings those- there might be a chance of something "drying out"/ frost drying?

It's something electronic. It wouldn't rev (the fly by wire throttle signal is gone), and then we took the ECU out to check if it was wet (was, a tiny bit), and when I put it back the car wouldn't even start.
I think the engine is OK, as it turns over, but there might be hundreds of pounds of damage, and the car has to be worth less than a packet of crisps.
There's a respectable-looking green 1999 V70 on Autotrader which is 1.7 miles from my house and the guy wants £2350 for it. Sounds like an OK deal to me. Plus, I have an empty garage for the 850 so I can break it up. I don't have the heart to scrap it - would rather see it recycled back into the ecosystem.

Bad news on the Ovlov, be a shame to lose it as it is a strong old thing. Check eBay for a second hand ECU maybe? Landcruiser on standby!

Jamie, I hate to brag - no hang on a minute, that's not true - but this is brewing at the back of my garage..........
4 times as many pots, at least 17 times your cc'age and it's all German, air cooled and horizontally opposed. Seems like a logical thing to do.
There are one or two 'issues'.

Good luck with that! Certainly fits the frame nicely... when a mate created an 1835/norton out of yard scrap it vibrated like a shot pig! Even doubling up on the mounts failed miserably. Think it was too tall with the doghouse! I assume it went back on the pile but he's a clever chappie so may well have sold it on to a bored housewife
