Ive got Dewalt 18v which Ive used most days for the last 5 years and its brilliant, have had to change the switch twice but its only about £30. The best bit is the 15min charger.
That said I would probably go for one of the little Hitachi things with the fancy batteries and loads of torqs, I think they have impact action aswell

They are worth using, a really sound set up, competitive (or so they tell me) and great people to deal with. We're building another site for them at the moment.

Got a Bosch Pro from screwfix, they were on offer last year - very happy. I think 14 volt is enough for us mere mortals for use on cars, 18/24 v is quite heavy to use. As long as you get two batteries and a rapid charger and adjustable torque, I am sure Bosch(not green!)/Makita will be fine. If you want to drill masonary etc then fill your boots!
Amazon wouldnt be a bad place to start, save you trawling around?

you say that but my 18V bosch is green I will burn it at the stake..
that or get a can of blue paint..
been as good as gold, keeps good charge, hammer action is great. Never let me down.. I guess it's how you treat your tools, it gets used daily

I've got two Ryobi 18v's They are brill- I even bought one for the wife last Christmas!!!
She was well pleased!!!

Good thinking!! I was a bit stuck for Valentines day! Ryobi also do a cordless car vac! Combine the interests as they say!!

I have had a number of cheaper drills for DIY but when I started using them day to day they just dont last. I agree with the fact that the green Bosch dont last.
Mt latest drill is a De Walt 18V, it is as powerful as many corded drills, only moan is the chuck sometimes takes small bits off centre.
I would recommend it but shop around to get a good price, 50% off list price.
Just got an order from screwfix and they have a Makita double pack for less than £100. Should be ok for enthusiastic DIY.
