I have run my '53 on 16s since I bought it and use Avon Tourists with them. Although it's not the greatest handling car in the world, everyone should remember that these are OLD cars and as such won't handle as well as later more developed 356s. Please note I drive this car a lot and have been into Europe a few times with it (am taking it to the International in Switzerland in May), the car just takes some getting used to.
From what I've been told, if anyone is running with 16s then it is important to have the car set up exactly right as they are quite sensitive.
Graham, let me know if you want to dispose of any of those rust old wheels!

16's it is!!!
hope you dont find me upside down in a hedge now!
I have to get the wheels painted and tyres fitted( dont know how to get them balanced as I dont have the bolt on plate with small centre hole?)
also the car had 4 beautifully polished drums ,then I had to replace 1 with an unpolished drum so I guess I'll have to get that polished too...
why is it that one job always leads to another.........

Such is life.
The dealer I went to had an adapter that they borrowed from a VW club nearby.
They did a very interesting balance. The computerized machine recorded "road force" readings which tallied which direction the tire tended to pull towards. The computer assigned a location on the car for each tire (tyre?).
The feel of the car changed so dramatically that I can't tell if it was the switch to radials or the new dead-center feel of the steering, but I'm enjoying it.

Barry , you have a great collection!!
I tried to buy a chris craft constellation to use as afloating appartment
here in London. found a great one in Napa California -great price and condition 46 footer! then got the quotes to ship it to the UK.
shipping was going to cost twice what I was paying for the vessel so I had no choice but to back out. Real shame .
got any pictures of yours?
