I'd buy the best sorted, not purist, least rusty Lancia Fulvia Zagato I could find. It would be as much fun and much cheaper to maintain than almost any of the above suggestions! Winston

So subjective as depends what your personal taste is, but I like Winston's idea of Zagato Fulvia. Also what about the Merc 190E 2.3 Cosworth. Or Integrale.

If I found 10 grand down the back of the sofa, I`d buy one of these.

Investment? maybe, maybe not..... not the point , I`ve always wanted one but never had the b*ll*cks to buy one.



Pistonheads seem to have them starting at 2.5k and rising in thousand increments.... a porsche for every pocket.

If like me, you`ve always fancied one and this pushes you over the edge, call me when you take delivery and call round for a cup of tea.

That Giulia is gorgeous. Reliability........Lotus Esprit.......mmmmmmmm

All of the Italian classic cars that I've had (probably 12-15) have been very reliable mechanically but (as with any old car) you need to ensure that you buy one that's not been neglected by any of its previous owners ...

The Fulvias in particular are beautifully engineered but every Italian car I've ever owned has been full of character - & great fun to drive no matter what engine size or level of performance they have.

So you have a (or several) Porsches already. You have an old Range Rover /some estate for going to the tip, shooting, pulling a trailer.

You want to have something stylish, reliable, timeless, classy and your budget is not more than 10k.... You don't like a boring eurobox full of gizmos ..... you use the 911 a lot but once in a while you need to transport some people.

For me it would be either a fast coupe or a Q-car.

With fast I mean under 7 seconds 0-60 and good performance in- gear (so a smug rep with a bmw 320d cant show you a clean pair of heels.) You don't care too much about the petrol.

Mercs: an AMG tuned SEC, an alloy 500SLC with modern engine/suspension work
Q: 500E, 450 SEL 6.9, 300SEL 6.3 (bit of work to do on that budget)
BMW: 3.0 CSI or M635 CSI
Q: 745I E23 -the south african version with 24 valve 3,5 286 BHP-, the first M5 e28
Audi RS2
Bently Mulsanne Turbo R
Lotus Carlton
Maserati Qporte mk4
Saab 9-3 Viggen
