Well I realise this might be a long search but I'm willing to wait for the right car, good things come to those who wait!
Any "feelers" you guys can put out would be much appreciated, oh and if at all possible I'd like one in dolphin grey

A T1 55- 56 356A must be a very good compromise ( I have to agree with Cubist) but then we are both a little biased!
Very early looks with early lights but a few discrete mods to make the driving experience even more pleasurable.
Add later gearbox and engine and having well maintained brakes and you can not go wrong.
It does not have to have high power etc... to be fun to drive, as these are such agile and light cars you find that with perform well with modern traffic.
