DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

I will renew my membership if only for the Classic Le Mans arrangement, PP isn't really my cup of tea I must confess but its getting better and with Phil writing the ealry 911 section I expect it'll get even better!

I re-joined for the below reasons:

1) PP it is getting better with more early content, it now takes about 20mins to read (beofre about 30 secs)

2) The 912 register trips, I have to stay in the club to make sure I don't miss out (Reims trip, AJP day etc).

3) The PCGB annual event, I had a good time last year and I am looking forward to BH even more.

4)If you don't get involved with the politics it is a good club.

I will renew again for PP and the annual event.

PP can be patchy but I still enjoy getting it every month. Also looking forward to seeing Phils update

As for the events, if I was going to Classic Le Mans then the access via the club would be worth the membership money alone.
I'm also a member of Porsche Club Ireland...a smaller base but a decent schedule.
As for the politic BS that is going on in PCGB, its in most clubs if you go looking for it.....but for me its not my buzz.

As for Classic Le Mans I wrote to Cdr Sloan and have heard nothing back. Its two months ago. Nor have I heard anything from teh organisers direct. I guess I need to call them. How else can the PCGB help with Classic Le Mans?

LAter this month I'm actually going on my 1st regional PCGB event, a cruise & day out based around Specialist Cars of Malton. Actually really looking forward to it

PCGB membership - I attended my first regional meet on Wed night in West Cumbria, a social event with the local TVR club and they were a friendly lot. About 1/10 came and said hello but the two organisers were very friendly giving info on future events and promising regular updates by email. Best of all were four early 911s and no 993/996/GT2/3 to get in the way like on the track but then again we were in a pub car park. That was another upside also if you wanted to drink ten pints and I didn't see the local fuzz prowling on the way out. By the way I didn't because I wouldn't want to prang my car. Its also an early night finishing about 9.30 to 10 but you could stay and chat if you wanted. The people we met were a mixed bunch but mainly more our age, I had my first 911 25 years ago so you can guess we are a little long in the tooth. It was an enjoyable social night with a wacky concours and the local opc dealer in his garage 04 boxster didn't win. I had an interesting conversation with a gentleman who was trying to persuade me the new cars with all the add-ons like abs, traction control etc etc were more fun to drive than our classics. Dream on, dream on!

It was enjoyable and my wife enjoyed looking at the cars as well so we will be attending the next social in a month's time because its local as well. I'll keep you posted.

PCGB UPDATE- been rather busy lately doing a loft conversion so sorry for the delay.
Attended last monthly meeting first week in June after decent first one. This was in conjunction with the local Jag club and there were some interesting cars of both varieties. We both enjoyed looking at them. The down side was my wife sat on her own all night bearing in mind that pcgb member's wives met her only a month previously the only exception being the Jag club presidents wife who spent time with her. Says a lot for pcgb wives who never spoke to my wife, "clicky" as other views have expressed and she won't be going to any more meets. I may attend occasionally though I won't be putting time aside every month. It's a pity because one or two of the members are friendly. No further reports I guess and I will seriously review paying subs next year.

Looking back through my collection of Porsche Posts recently (which go back to Trading Post days) and I have to say that the improvment and content is exceptional. That alone keeps me renewing, as living in the Algarve, I only get to the annual function and perhaps a couple of W. Midlands meets a year, (where we are always made astonishingly welcome). The Club House is only 15 miles from my UK base, and is the best I have seen. The office staff are extremely helpful, and apart from a few small hiccups before Phil took over the Early register,the 914 Register is top, and overall I think it is an outstanding club, which serves necessarily different needs to DDK. I am happy to be in both - and TIPEC too, and having enjoyed the visits to Walton Hall, I am looking forward to Brands.

I rejoined PCGB last year after a number of years where money needed to be spent elsewhere! My work keeps me out of the UK for much of the time and I am a miserable B......d anyway, so unlikely to participate in much of the social side. Having said that, my wife & I did try our first local region meet at Roger Bray's Restorations last week and we both enjoyed it. I guess clubs are what you want from them and that is generally down to what you are prepared to put in!

DDK strikes me as easier - for me - to relate to. I am almost certainly older than most of you (but poorer) but I like the atmosphere and the generally helpful 'fun' attitude.

And will I renew my PCGB membership? Yes - PP has improved enormously in recent months and I always find something of interest there.

Bob. I hope so, but suspect otherwise.

On the PCGB memebership front; the value offered (admittedly by PC France) at Le Mans Classic was in excess of the annual PCGB membership. I hope that for 2006 DDK can offer the same benefits at Classic Le Mans. I will work om it

That would be great. Porsche usually have the same and more at the Oldtimer Grand Prix, Nurburgring.

Nick I'm still up for a DDK garage at the Spa Porsche Days next year!!!

At the end of the day I will be renewing my PCGB membership - if only for access to events like the Classic and Avd Oldtimer.

So Adam after starting this thread and with all these thoughts what have you decided to do? Rejoin or not rejoin that is the question??
