Thanks for all the replies, I guess I have discovered where the classic enthusiasts live!
I am 99% sure that I will enter the rally, just have to sort the paperwork this weekend. My (very standard) RS does not require much prep work to make it compliant, just a fire extinguisher and a retro mechanical trip meter.

AHA, success! I just sent Helen the link, apologies if you get this picture twice. This was from the Hever Castle Show and Shine 2007 (PCGB), some of the cars in the concours were about a week old! Lovely setting for a picnic though.

I have seen pictures posted of a (replica?) RS with the number plate TGF 160L, maybe that's why it rings a bell. Mine was a French car originally, but I have yet to get round to tracing the car's full history. It was returned to its original signal yellow recently by 911classic.

The 914 was pretty much the car of the day for me at Hever, but i do not have many pictures, here's one of its derriere...

Hello Elkelk,

Welcome to DDK and lovely car you have there. I first heard about the three castles from a chap called Winston Goodfellow, who competed in carrera 3.o chassis #20 (that car lives now in Carlisle)

It was in fact featured in Classic and Sportscars in august 2003 IIRC because father competed in a Morgan plus 8 and son in the carrera 3.o.

They enjoyed it very much and the three castles came highly recommended; they also did Le JOG when it was about the first year that they didn't discriminate against porsches; 3 castles was more enjoyable apparently.

Its on my wish list but erm I definetly need a bit more experience in the car handling department

Thanks for the feedback, I have yet to hear a bad thing about the event.

As for car skills, my track experience has all been on 2 wheels, I think I'll take it easy and just have some fun. Frankly, I think its the co-driver that gets the raw deal, mine is already studying a book on basic rally navigation, all i have to do is turn the key and press the pedals..

Three castles rally

Post by mogga911 »

I have entered a 911 in the three castles ,a friend we have been competing with this year persuded me. It depends which class you enter, read the regulations carefully pre 1974 cars 70 profile tyres or take some penalties you will find it easier with a trip meter but you do not need anything just to enjoy the trip ,our friends did it three years running in an aston martin v8 automatic, the first time the organisers loaned them a stopwatch.I am told the organisers are very friendly and helpful, and the company is good last year there where 8 porsches I think.
