The thing with GRP is that you have to flat it back alot. You see this alot in Kit cars where it looks to have a wobble along the panel.. Flat that out and then they good great.

Depends on the quality of the GRP in the first place.

Hi there, yes GRP do vary, but as others have said, it's just down to how much work you want to put in. These front wings had done the rounds: when I bought them, everyone at the autojumble piped up saying that they had owned them at one point, only to sell them again at the next jumble .

Anyway, I ended up cutting the rear frames off, lengthening the outer skin right upto the door, backmarked the correct the door gap, shaved them back to the line, slit the rear frame to take new shallower side profile, bond back in place, reglass slits, mount headlight bowls, adapt original (steel) fuel filler recess and flap from a scrap wing and bond in, thin out all edges to make them look like steel, fill and paint. Easy .

They may be the ones I sold him then

I built Andy's car, Andy supplied the wings from GT Racing, they were excellent quality wings but, they took me the best part of 2 to 3 days, removing & replacing, grinding & filling to make these wings fit somewhere near, so just think hard in the amount of work involved before purchasing fibre glass wings.

Where did you get the ST front wings? Were they from GT racing? I take it tgat nobody makes steel ST front wings? Rich

I got my GRP ST front wings from DRE Racecar Composites in Bampton, Oxford, 07979 215112. Steel ST flares (you need to supply the wings) are available at £400 each but there is a very, very long waiting list. I am investigating an alternative line of supply and if anyone knows a high quality fabrication shop I can source an ST as a template.

Sorry this thread got hijacked! The ST wings were £175 plus the headlamp bowls at £80 each. When you reckon that it can take 2 days to make these fit, and they will never look as good as steel, the benefit can only be the weight saving.
