Robster, did you have the cage put in when you had it or is it the new owner who had it put in? If it was when you had it, care to comment on the cage? good, bad, fit etc? As the cage is a multipoint (not historic spec) I'm guessing that this was just built for road and the occasional track day? (or possibly the Porsche Speed Challenge series?). I'm about to order the cage but without the front triangulation and other tubing outside the passenger cell. The most important info I need on that particular design of cage is how was the roof going to go on? there is no way to get the front clips on.Robster wrote:The mystery car is actually the Robster mobile mk1! yep my first 914! It's now owned by Paul Herbert. Last time I heard from him, the shell has now had GT arches fitted.
Apparently it will have a 2.8RSR spec engine! Bonkers! A bit faster than when it had my old 2.0L in it...
kind regards
Robster

Just about to order up my cage from CC. I informed them that I only need the cage to Historic spec i.e. no front triangulation and no tubing outside of the passenger cell. I only needed the tubing I've marked in red below:

Which is basically the SD cage but made in bigger tubing, with a harness bar, better side bars and a roof diagonal. The price.... £288 +vat, delivery 5-7days!!! pretty good I thought. Please note this is a weld in cage supplied with straight ends (profiled ends are slightly more). If anyone really wanted a bolt in cage I don't think it would take much to make this into a bolt in.

Now thats nice . Will you retain the trim behind/between the seats? i see your not having the rear brace , thats why i ask. Also are you having a bar that goes along and in front of the dash?
What racing can you do with a cage like that welded in? I'm new to this motorsport lark so don't know what classes are available.
Unless a SD comes up i think this is what i'd aim for myself. Just concerned about the roof not fitting.
Good price aswell bearing in mind i then have to get it fitted and i'm yet to get an idea on that. Definatly on the top 3 list of things to do this winter !

Hello, Dan.
Cage rules for Historics are quite complicated: begin by looking at the rac Blue book..then look at the fia site, for appendix K..then ring all the folk who you'd expect to know..half of them won't..the other half will each give a different answer..
You will soon lose the will to live..
Bottom line is that you definitley are not allowed anthing outside cockpit (habitacle in fia speak), and can fix the cage at the following points only:
4 feet of main bars
2 feet of rear braces
2 at middle of door sills
and maybe one more if using double angled diagonal bars for the main hoop , fixed to the tunnel behind the seats..
You will note that no fixing is permitted at shoulder level for the front or rear hoops..silly IMHO especially for the 914..but it can be got round..
Kind regards
David

Whilst i'm saving for a cage thoughts of a harness bar entered my head. Until i saw the price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously is someone having a laugh
Has there been any threads here regarding them?? All i need is a pic and some rough dimensions . I'll get one knocked up , not exactly hard to make!
Anyone have any pic's for me to work from. I'll get one made up and priced and see if anyone here wants one. Well over £130 for some tubing and welded on brackets , someone is seriously getting minted out of these things!
