Took the long route to get a fill up. Stood in the queue to pay at the Shell station listening to the comments about the 'lovely old Porsh'. Drove back home, checked the oil level for the first time after draining the tank. Found the oil cap jammed in corner of engine bay (doh!), added a litre or so, to bring it up to 'Max', put it away dirty; promised it a wash today if I got the chance.

Yesterday I did what must be one of the scariest task on an early911 restoration. I removed and replaced the rubber grommet that sits between the fuel filler and the inner wing. The large spring circlip (is that what its called?) is a scary thing to fit. How people do this on newly painted cars without having a nervous breakdown?

I put a nice new ecotile floor down (thanks Garry (Visualfx))in the garage for my car

However, by the time the 2 vespas, 5 bikes, tandem and other assorted gubbins was in there, I don't seem to have room for the car - Ramps for the front edge are on the way

I cycled out to Heathrow to pick up my car from Max at Revival. That has to count as one of the strangest bike rides I've done. There is basically a cycle path which follow the A4. I cycled pass the beginning of a runway and there are horses in a field on the other side of the road!

The car was like a different car. Smoother across the full rev range, more torque and no backfiring. Just from going up in jets/chokes. Early days yet but very positive so far.

PS and you can fit a mtb in a 912 without having to take off the top!

I have no idea so left the giant circular paint scraper off. Did you manage it? How?

It desperately needs rear end weighting with an engine and gearbox.............. plus needs to stand on level ground!
Then we might get round to the fancy bits!

It was just a private do with a few friends - seemed a central spot, but a bloody boring drive just up and back down the M5, even if it was in the 914/6.

Ha, not for many years now..these days you can give it the beans up the bridge on ramp, and enjoy the exhaust noise off the central reservation wall

Left the wife watching F1 Qualifying and went out in the 911 hotrod solo out into Shropshire.

Having lost 90% of my 911 mojo these runs are to find it again, or a TR5 it will be!

The biggest recent (last 10 year) bitch has been the awful 915 gearchange. After several mods I've finished with the Rennsport device, a group buy with Andy in Ireland. Jaffa has the same now.

This mod has been a revelation and the run today just underlines this.

Poring rain, lights on and A/B roads to Ludlow, over the Clee hills and to Bewdley, to Bridgnorth and home, all in all 2 hours.

Car was great, the mighty 3.2 just sublime and running 3rd gear from 2K to 6500 rpm..and EVERY gear change worked, no bulking, no misses, no crunching and now the shifter is 'wearing-in' the change is lightening up.

Re-fuelled the mojo a bit.

The car now feels like it would stroll over to SPA and back easy.

Needs a bloody good wash now

We forget how good these cars are sometimes.

I simply jumped into my car (Tuesday) drove to R-RSR to help KS with his EFI, and drove home again on Wednesday.
That's a 440 mile round trip, and I don't even think about it !
Awesome little cars

Left West Cork last Wednesday PM, 3 1/2 hrs to Dublin, get ferry to Holyhead- afternoon near Oulton buying a 924 race car [more on this later] stay in Chester with PCI mob- Rs track day at Oulton Friday [see pix]- 4hours to Alton then weekend at Goodwood.
Leave Jaffa in Alton, fly to Spain Monday AM for weeks work- arrive back in Alton last night at 1100.
Up this morning at 0600 to get ferry home from Pembrok- 4 hours later and about 1150 miles since leaving [was telling Jaffa how great shew is]
Stopped in Pembroke to get the car washed [real people not machine] and she wouldn't start! - battery, electrics fine, luckily valet guys dad is mechanic [Grant- has Caterham] , lives round corner, arrives with toolbox, trolley jack and axle stand.
A minute later Jaffas bum is in the air with him underneath, verdict dodgy starter motor , he got it going [said lead to solenoid a bit rough] - although he said it was fab otherwise- got it going so good news.
He said it WILL be intermittent so I will get her off ferry [with push if neccessary ]drive straight to Bantry- drop Jaffa in storage unit - pick up Nissan cube and head directly back to Cork to pick up the boss off 1130 flight from Nice via LHR.
So there's a job- he said easy to do- new exchange starter GBP 150 so not disastrous!
Might not be going to Mondello track day Friday though
