I’ve blown all the rebuild money on buying garage doors and a 3.2 TT for my wife after my daughter passed her driving test and bought our Mini from us.

You must be blessed, I have supplied a number of cars to my daughter and strangely enough I am still waiting for payment!

Your car looks fantastic though.

I’ve gone straight in with the drill and fitted the new paint plate John kindly stamped for me ages back.



And put some badges on it


My Daughter has also found a touch up pen for when I inevitably scratch it.

Put some panel damping on last night. Bit more to do today over the rear arches, but that’s enough. I’m not putting that big rubber water trap thing back in!

I’m not sure who did what during the paint process but the spectacularly non factory tight gaps on the oil flap made me laugh.

Not so good on the mirror fixings…

I’ve just spent the last 2 evenings reading your entire build thread in its entirety which has been a very welcome distraction to my wife’s weeks worth of strictly come bleeding dancing on catch up TV
I love the colour, your painstaking work has paid off and what a result!

Ref Panel gaps.
The other week I attended a special day with the PCGB and 67 original cars, many were early to mid 70s.
The panel gaps were anything but consistent, and the usual gappy gap where the mirror goes was really variable.
The factory fit I think was anything like the painstaking gapping of today's restorations.
A foactory just could not spend the time that is lavished today.
The panels were hardly cad designed and tooled!

The flap is wonderful, a wider gap by the mirror?
Real I would call it.

Nobody will notice it at Le Mans!

I think a bare painted 911 shell is the best part of the rebuild and that looks stunning - in my favourite colour too! Great work.

He’s not talking about the gap by the mirror Graham (that’s just the angle of the photo) - he’s talking about the fact they’ve filled in the mirror mounting holes and he’s got to re-drill them

Surely the stamped-out holes on the inside of the door for access to the mirror mounting screws are still there ?
