Hi, i had the chance to live in Utah for almost 5 years, when I was attending BYU. In one of my trios to Park City I hit a deer, luckily the guy that towed my car was the owner of a workshop that restore cars, he did a wonderful job on my car, leave it like new.
By the way if you dont mind asking, how much is the cost of doing all this?

Great to see some of you guys at the Orange Tree, it reminded me that I haven't updated the progress of the car since September so I have been looking through emails and Facebook and downloading photos to the bucket. Needless to say it has taken a lot longer than I thought to get where we are. Everyone says it will cost more and take twice as long and they are usually right. I have been flat out at work though and apart from a gentle nudge here are there I haven't been pushing the guys to get it finished anytime soon. Which is a good thing as we had been delayed in getting both interior bits and also engine parts. Firstly the interior. Most of what was left in the car was pretty far gone, so we could attempt to repair or patch it up but in the end it would have meant mismatched vinyl and let the rest of the car down. Eric is fantastically connected in the US and went straight to Tony from Autos International as well as Stoddard for the interior bits. Here's where we started from;

Your car looks stunning. I love the finish on the grill, is this new? If not what process of painting gives this finish?

I assume these are new door pockets, etc. Everything looks amazing?

Always good to introduce yourself before asking how much someone restore is costing

I have many friends that have attended BYU but with the honor code etc I wasn't in a hurry to go.

The reason because I asked is because now I live in Chike an there is a shop in Chile that would buy a clasic for me and they would restore it for me, that's why I wanna know in what ball park are we talking about.
And yes the Honor code scares many away from BYU, but is fun though

Hey Tom, Thank you. It's a textured satin black , it's what was on the grill and it looked to be factory. So Troy matched it the best he could. Hope that helps,

What there is something very important I didn't mention. Congrats on your car, I really enjoyed this tread so far and I'm waiting to see pictures of the car finish and hopefuly a video.

Just received a final bill from Troy which means the exterior and interior are finished (I won't be revealing how much ) and reminded me I needed to update the thread. Im slightly concerned that you learned people will realise how much I don't know about engines by what I now post or alternatively ask a difficult question I won't know the answer to! Anyway here are some before pictures......

Transmission, needed new mainshaft bearing on the intermediate plate and 1st and 2nd gear syncro's replaced










The motor looks like is has been worked on before as 5 pistons had a wider oil ring gap and one with a smaller gap, so it took a while to find a smaller one. Basically it was good but tired. So Eric and his team set about rebuilding it for me.

First of all was the carbs, the most difficult part seemed to be finding a plater who could match the right plating! this seemed to take the team several attempts before they were happy.

































Looks pretty fancy to me, hope they work as well as they look.

I love seeing updates from this. Looking great. The attention to detail shown with regards to the plating sets a good precedent for the rest of the work.
