Pencil me in for the next Spa trip and a passenger ride.

Have just done quite a bit of shell transportation myself lately, and I can therefore empathise with the stress levels you intimate. Also it seems like everyone else still assumes you can manoeuvre like an ordinary car, and ignore the fact you have this (precious) wobbly thing perched on a long car trailer behind you.

Haven't tried the cling film route - where did you get it? Not a kitchen shop presumably!

The next stage is the best bit - fitting out a nicely painted, clean shell with clean bits. Not without its stress opportunities as well though ...... one lesson from me, never pick up or shake a 'rattle-can' by the lid anywhere near a freshly painted shell

Looking forward to the next steps .... especially as I now also have a targa to fix up.

I couldn't believe that the car was dry when we got it the workshop considering the down pour we travelled through, I was panicking all the way back - Just to be sure there was zero moisture in the car though it was put in the booth this morning for a couple of hours with the heat set to maximum.

I went in to have another look to find the boys pouring all over the car marvelling at Barry's handiwork. It really is a thing of beauty......



As it was chucking down by the time the car was safely on the trailer Rich felt it unfair to get Barry soaked for the usual 'money shot' so he had to fill in......



Totally ruined it with the big grin and looking far too cheery! - Guess that was unavoidable!

Mick - if you search for pallet wrap and your local area, there'll be bound to be a supplier near by - mine cost me £6 for 300m. It's amazingly strong and as we have proven, waterproof. It is a PITA to get on the car though, but well worth it.

Yes - felt badly about not having a Barry shot here - sorry Barry. However as agreed I'd like you to sign the car next to the original painter's mark - I'd like to think that in 40 or 50 years time, maybe another resto (not by me of course) and they'll be wondering about the marks under the dash! You're part of it's history now Barry and my thanks to you.

Yes, we did, it was very kind of you to let me take a whole bunch of detail photos on your fantastically original car - having such an unmolested car, you've definitely given me a benchmark to aspire to! Detail along lines like this....







But most of all, you have helped me to decide what to do with my seats - yours are simply fantastic - so, basket-weave inserts and perforated bolsters it is for me! hoping I can get somewhere near the patina you've got here.

I've always thought that was the best combination of seat materials Porsche offered for their 'sport' seats - & they look (& feel) even better after a few years' usage (like the one in your picture).

Definitely a good choice Rich.

Thanks Andy - I think its going to look great too....just got to find the right person with the right material, skills and perforating capability now...! any suggestions?

Also - one more detail - this turned up this week, I have finally found a good Durrant - and at the third time of asking I have an original....

Stage 3 commences - it's a story of paint....

First up, bare metalling. We decided to to this so that we could make sure that there weren't any surprises at all later on. A final, final check for bits that might take hold in the future.

It also gives the base on which everything else will be built - the priming, skimming, undercoat and top coats. So time spent in prep here is vital to the finished product.



Then a final check around to see if there was anything that might cause issues in the future. We found a couple of places where potentially there could be the start of a rust issue in the future. Rich did a 'search and destroy' mission on any bits of the body where neither I nor the blast media had managed to penetrate the original coating....we found one or two.





But nothing a good going over with a screwdriver to scrape off and some POR 15 to make sure it never sees the light of day. Great detailing. Very impressed with this level of care and attention.

So onto the first paint. What do they say about watching paint dry? Well this is way more exciting than that....I thought I was going to be a bit, well, meh, about this first paint, it being grey and all....but I can really start to see how this is going to look.






And I think this series starts to show the quality of Barry's work on the project too, looking at the floors and the interior it just looks new, when infact it's mostly old...great job that man...

And this is the one that made me think - yeah - this is probably going to turn out OK.
