I've heard all the DJ jokes! and to think when I got off the boat from NZ I thought I was unique My boys have thankfully followed their dad into being passionate about cars - proves you're genetically predisposed to this affliction doesn't it?!

Ferryman in fact the building was originally built in 1825 as a place of congregation, so I'm just keeping the worship/bringing together thing going! It's been a long old haul refurbishing the thing, but we're finally on the home straight. I'm shifting the cars in a week or so, so it will be interesting to drive the Special up there - first time we will properly have it on the road

Don't forget Steve, your cars birthplace (Barnet & Small) is but a few hundred yards from my house.
I still get cars serviced/MOT'd at that very garage.

You said your man recollected testing the special on the Alton Bypass.
That's where I go for a fun blast at speed.
Looking forward to seeing the body take shape.

Hey Keith. We've driven the Special up the lanes near the old workshop and you get a sense of how it will be already. It's very sharp, the turn-in is lovely and direct, with a very instant feel to acceleration, change of direction, etc which you would expect with a short wheelbase (2100mm) and very little weight. It feels faster than it is though, principally because the engine is exposed and an inch from your left ear . It's hugely loud inside and oddly quiet out! We are going to have to change the exhaust unfortuantely as the Tatra sourced mufflers have been the only casualty of 50 years of dormancy. The drive up the Alton Bypass must have left lots of moist exhaust particles which have rusted it from the inside out. I'm thinking 4 into 1 Porsche Carrera style with a couple of tiny square silencers as per period. Cheers, Steve

Well the Special is finished... no need for Barry to build a body in ali. I decided to drive the cars to the new workshop (only about 7 miles). It was a complete blast, seeing 70mph down one straight , and the gaffa taped, bungee cord, wooden braces and plastic ties worked a treat. So there's no point spending a small fortune on a body, especially if gaffa tape is good enough for race cars at Classic Le Mans It must have been a crazy sight, not least of all this tall kiwi dude doing a small dance in the middle of the road when he got to the new workshop. In all seriousness though, it was wonderful to drive the car properly on the road: handling is lovely and benign, lots of suspension travel, really chuck-able through the twisty stuff, and quick as. This is going to be one hot little car when it's done.

Thanks to Fabian for ferrying me back and forth to move all the cars! Cheers mate, much appreciated.

shh! you're not meant to notice that! needed to at least have it look road legal...

Also a HUGE thanks to Barry for sorting the steel staircase, window bars and anti-ram bar for the main doors - if the guy can make a body with half the elegance and technical brilliance as he did these bits it's going to look lovely... thanks mate.

If so, I have some (5.50Mx15) you can have on long-term loan if they're of any use.

James, it was just Jewson's heavy duty masonry paint, two coats applied with a roller. sticks like S*%& to a blanket as I still can't scrub it off my hands a week on! Used almost 100 litres of the stuff on the walls and floor - the walls in particular soaked the stuff up. In hindsight I would've used something less expensive on the walls.

Andy I'd love to take you up on the offer if that's okay. We only need them for sizing purposes - the car won't be driven anywhere now until the body is finished.

Steve, I think in fact that your floor was actualy Jewson Floor Paint, rather than masonary paint . It certainly looked very smart indeed when I saw it not long after it had gone down.

It'll be interesting to see how well it lasts. In fact, as the jig is out of the workshop for another week or two, I might take the opportunity to do my floor as well, which is woefully overdue ...

Well done again Steve, I know you've put some serios graft into the workshop project over the last few months .
