OK, back on topic.
Question: How do you secure the bonnet and boot of an ST rep?
Answer: You use these...

It's just tack welded here to check for fit.

This thread wouldn't be the same without Mark's contributions.

Might I suggest that before you go any further you get a high quality engraving on the side of the bowl:-

"It's the dog's....."

I'm serious now - I think this would be well cool - but it has been mentioned that I have a warped view of cool

Hi Paul,

Progress is looking great. Can I ask a couple of questions:

For the centre filler neck where is the cap locking ring from? I am going to put a centre filler cap on my project car and have the 4inch race style cap but from what I have found it seems that a standard filler neck is around 3 inch. Is the locking ring cut from a beetle or 356 tank and welded in place?

How do you know the correct location for the hole in the bonnet? Is there any specific measurements used and then tack weld the filler neck in place?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks and happy birthday...
Chris

Chris, the hole was centred on the bonnet width and then positioned in a best guess for the depth front to back. The down tube was then fabricated to align with the aperture. Talk to Nick about the locking ring, I'm sure he can help.

Yep, there's plenty of wheel under there. Plus the Michelins are generous on the sidewall bulge. Lovely tyres though. It's gotta be them. 8)

The photo shows the wheel/spring under compression so it looks 'busy' in there but it will ride higher than that. I'm assured clearance is not a problem. A little tweaking and it'll be fine. Mind you I do want them filling the arches. :)
