DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

I took mine of to a friends where I loaded it up with a very old piece of elm from the keel of my boat. Had to lop a foot off the end to get it in . Then drove to Aerocoat to get a couple of old metropolitan line train luggage racks powder coated. Dropped those off, went to see my mum. Car is now filthy and barely went above 50mph as Norfolk is full of slow people (in oh so many ways)

Will rinse the car off tomorrow before going back in the garage for a few weeks

For a while the 911 has been wintering in a garage in Ascot. For reasons too tiresome to detail, over the weekend I've moved up to Ascot to accompany it (although I get a couple of warm rooms), and I've brought with me tools, the old sound-proofing that will go into the car (once I've found a way to prevent it shedding brown 'horse hair' everywhere), and the sun-roof lining.

I've also got to fit a few last interior bits but I now realise they're at the back/bottom of a 100ft2 rented storage unit that is stuffed to the gunwales with my possessions.

Got my 356 out of the garage to take for a run. Only to notice the back leftside tyre was completely flat! Now I'm trying to decide whether to replace all the tyres or just get the puncture fixed. All the tyres still have pretty good tread but I don't know how long they have been on the car.

Have a look at the date your tyres were made, usually a week number followed by a year number.



Low mileage tyres can be badly affected by premature aging.

Thank you Mike. I knew about the markings for the tyre spec but will check the age.

When I bought my 911 it was wearing 12 year old tyres which were hard and shiny. They looked rather smart and had plenty of tread on them.... but absolutely no grip at all.

So that is 23 week of 2009? Therefore about 6 years old which isn't too bad for these cars?

Bodywork finished & car is now in primer - all being well it should be painted over the weekend ...

I'm taking a different approach this time - no pictures or a specific thread on the car till it's 'on the road' (late Spring hopefully).

That isn't the DDK way! Lots of pictures as the project struggles on for years is mandatory!
