Out of interest, what method did you use to mark the positions of the wings, bonnet and engine lid before removing them after you got it back from Barry, before you removed them? Did you leave the door hinges on and pop the pins?

I haven't dared to move my panels yet since Barry positioned and fettled them, but I need to take them off for Raptor'ing etc.

- I was thinking of drilling a few 2mm holes through the wing flanges into the wings and one through each bonnet hinge into the bonnet frame. My bonnet hinges will stay put because I find them a nightmare to get into a good position...

Looking forward to seeing yours painted green next week and fully built the week after. When is your next project being delivered by the way?

Further back up the thread somewhere I show what I did with the door hinges. I drilled through them and the A pillar, pinned them then removed one at a time to paint behind and popped them back on never to be removed again! And yes from then on it’s via the pins. I put the doors back in yesterday and they still line up so fingers crossed!

I’ve drilled the same small holes through the bonnet hinges to the bonnet, but I have since removed the hinges from the shell because of a colour change of plan so I’ll have to do those again.

The wings aren’t pinned, again just going to need to adjust them.

In the same vein, I found the thickness of the caulking between the inner and outer wings added about 1mm to the bonnet and door gaps. All the layers build up, they don't crush to nothing.

Thanks Gary, my new wings fit like **it and need a good shove back and then a delicate front-to-back and side-to-side adjustment. Of course, unlike me, Barry nailed the positions straight away, but my Jedi powers of metal persuasion are clearly nowhere near as strong as his so I'd better put locating holes in to lock their positions in all three planes. Same with the doors and bonnet

Hillclimber - hopefully the caulking won't make too much different once squished down, but it will be taken into account and I know that I can give the flange position a wee tweek if necessary...

Panelled the shell up the other day and took to the floor with a Stanley blade and some thinners...



Looks much better now, I’ll do the other half you can’t see at some point ...and maybe the workbench!

A neighbour was chucking out a kitchens worth of perfectly decent wooden worktop so I’ve made a new (bigger, not warped, not wrecked!) top for my workbench.

Vice is now bolted straight into the steel underneath for those stubborn moments as this is block wood rather than solid.



I’m sure it won’t be long before it’s covered in holes and paint like the old one, but hopefully it will motivate me to try a bit harder to keep it tidy.

I’ve enough to make a couple of fold down surfaces for the other side of the garage for those jobs like trimming or wiring that need a big clean surface. That will wait until the shell goes on it’s next journey!

Looks great, this should be the start of a show us your workbench thread. Is that a plumbed in air supply?

Washed my garage floor 3 days ago with cellulose gun wash.
Needed a respirator throughout....

That bench need breaking in!

Badly plumbed in yes The compressor has it’s own sound proofed cupboard in the white unit. Makes it so much nicer to use.

I used 2k thinners... same here!

Yes the bench is far too clean, I’ll spill some paint on it soon.
