Is that glass fibre reinforced with balsa or balsa reinforced with glass fibre? Either way mind it doesn't float away

Yes. I was up country for the weekend and quite coincidentally got a message from Barrie to say they were ready. With a bit of jiggery pokery got them in the back of my Golf estate. Perfect timing!

Well, that's the entry for the first outing in and paid for - Wiscombe Park April 24th... Now just got to get the car ready: build engine, collect gearbox, do a ton of wiring, install engine and box and then, if time allows, fit new brake calipers, glassfibre panels... Hmmm. Is that all? If it doesn't happen, Werrington's the following weekend, followed by two more Wiscombes. I'm exhausted already just thinking about it.

Just done the same today:
Loton practice day in early April, Prescott in late April and first round of the Midland Championship, plus Shelsley and Loton in May.

Got to get the wiring done (what a PITA) by end of this week.
Oil and start the engine (lots of fingers crossed)
Down to the Rolling road to be tweaked by Ben I hope.

Fit new belts and be nice to fix some bodywork damage.

Not too much if said quickly, but will my nerves take it?

Got 6 weeks max to do it all....

Oh, and get the 911 out of expensive storage.

Well, managed to remove the rear lid by myself (a job best handled by two people!) and then disconnected and removed the lethal torsion bar springs which hold up the heavy stock boot lid, Damn, they're strong and I can see why everyone says to wear hand and eye protection! Me? Nah, just stood back and levered the springs off the rollers and waited for the bang. Much more fun.

Lightweight lid from Barrie Martin fitted much better than I expected (needs the edges tidying up a little). Happy bunny!

Sarah then gave me a hand lifting off the front lid and I now just need to fab a tool to remove the springs from the hinges (they're too strong for the glass panel) before I can check the fit. Unless I can find someone to paint the panels for free(!), they'll be staying au naturel for a while...

When we did the KG at Goodwood parade laps, the late-braking banzai 914 behind me has an unpainted bonnet like that. Thought he was gonna run into the back of me every corner

Vinyl wrap on both in a contrasting colour? Sure Parc signs or someone locally would do it as a freebie for some stickers on the car?

Well, been weighing some parts. Altogether, with the lightweight lids, bumpers and losing sundries such as radio, console, spare wheel, etc, the car has lost around 60kg in weight. Official weight of a 1975 US-spec 1.8 914 is/was 950kg... If we achieve the 165-170bhp we're aiming for, that should make it fairly lively... I've even managed to get back under 10 stone, too...
