Hello knapmann, good to see you back and getting on with the re-build.
The UK supplied switches were all hard bakelite, similar to the HRW one that I showed in a photo earlier. Doubtless someone with a 69 car will come up with a photo of their dash shortly.

Headlinging
2) Fitting my headlining I think I need the A & B post vinyl fitted first as they tuck under the headliner? How about the C pillar? Do I need to have anything fitted other than the A&B vinyl and the interior light wiring?

No - the headlining goes in first, then the A & B post needs to be fitted over the headlining C pillar is the headlining itself but needs pulled down. The door seals are then glued in last. You will need 100's of clips to clip the headling in place before sticking, I assume you have the headinging bows?? you might want to get some new rubber ends for the bows them prior to fitting depending on their condition. The underside of you roof should also have a sounddeadening pad - I've not checked all your pics but just mentioning prior to you doing the job. The pad can help keep the bows in place.

When I took my headlining out it was fitted over the A post vinyl but, you say it goes under I'm sure it must have been in and out in the past so I will look deeper into this. I have the bows and a million clips having done headliners in the past. In the roof is just loads of sponge/foam (i'll take some pictures).

I see, I think I have been getting confused by the US spec big rubber ugly switch knobs. I need 2 of what you pictured with the little red lighty up centre for the heated window and the hazards, and a normal one for the headlights... something else for the list

The hazard switch is different to the others, I think it may be a 69-only part as well. You will need a photo of a 69 dash for that!

Last year I refurbished my dash pad. Same crack as yours, but not quite so bad. A local coach trimmer who does vinyl repairs said he would have a go at filling and blending in, as long as I 'stabilised' the structure. I used some 2 pack glue/filler used for bumper repairs to bond the foam back to metal core where it had come loose, particularly where the fixing points are. He would have preferred to make the repair in situ once it was reinstalled, so there was no flex and potential cracking, but I just got him to do it, and then was v careful. HTH

Interesting, do you have a picture of before & after? or just after? Im interest to see what can be achieved without having to re-wrap the whole dash.

on the topic of sound deadening, my car has literally none in the shell, is it worth getting some? Or does it not really make much difference? I was looking at getting these 3M pads which seem much discussed as deadening and maybe put something absorbant on top of that? But what? Has anyone any experience in this area? I have no idea on this front, didnt bother with my '02.

Glad to have you back.
69 dash speaker grille is a one year only size as you say. Do you have the grille ? They are hard to get being so rare. If you have it then the dash top is worth repairing as original. It might be possible to make one. Otherwise, do you have the speaker itself which fits underneath? Are you going to fit a radio anyway? If your car is going to have a sports purpose bent I’ve seen battery cut off switches mounted there on plain vinyl (no holes) with radio delete.
This will impact on what you want to do with the lower dash, where a radio would normally sit, where you could fit a radio delete panel (original or repro or fabricated) or just cover the radio hole with basket weave vinyl fitted over the lower dash pieces you have. The vinyl wraps round the edges a little and not cut cut off ‘flush’ with the edge.

I took some pics of my grille, I cant find the specific dimensions of a 69 grille to check but I noticed that the pegs on the underside match this grille advertised as a 69

on this basis I assume my grille and therefore dash pad is a 69...? so buying a new dash pad or even a good used one is now out of the question really. I have to stick with this one. I can either vinyl wrap it or try and have someone repair it in local areas. I was leaning towards wrapping it myself but now that I think its a 69 to do so might not be the wisest idea. Having said that im dubious how good a repair is really possible on these.

That foam is not factory. The deadening pad/sheet is thinner and far more dense, a lot like the pads on the inside of the floor.

The adhesive must be very high temperature too, that roof will get very hot esp with the dark green colour soaking up the rays.

I still think you should leave that dash pad alone, just a good clean after fitting, let it wear it's history?
