Timetable is now a bit tighter
Sunday 29th - Bert takes me up to the lakes, fit the heater pipes and drive back. Fit the rest if the interior and sort the ride height. Try and stop the alarm going off every time I try and set it (believe I need to jumper a plug to make it think the engine lid is closed)
Monday 30th - Neil polishes the paintwork
Tuesday 1st - in to the sign place for the vinyls to be fitted
Wednesday 2nd lunchtime - collect car and drive to CLM

I'm hoping the weather will be warm enough not to need the heater pipes, I've just removed mine as the flaps aren't closing properly (spring loaded on a 964) and the cabin was getting too warm.

Mike was saying they (the ones in the engine bay) need to be connected to aid cooling

Ah OK, thought you meant the ones from the exchangers to the flap boxes, ignore me so.

Hah yes! Bert generously gave me a lift up to the lakes this morning and Mike generously come into work on a Sunday to hand the car over, when he was meant to be somewhere else. Mike also quickly sealed off the heat exchanger holes so the engine would cool properly.
Drive back was a bit crap - nothing to do with the car - just so much traffic on the road - Id avoided motorways to make sure I didn't sit tar constant revs, but I found I was stuck in slow moving traffic much of the time. Eventually joined the M1 just in time for one I of those 20 mile 50mph average speed shitbags. I kept accelerating and engine- braking, and changing from 3rd to 4th to 5th and back again.
Car performed brilliantly - only able to stretch it's legs a few times - 5500 a few times and 6K once. I'm still a bit reticent about really going for it but that will wear off.
I'd been bothered about two main things - the bonnet popping up and being unable to lock the car using the immobiliser (and therefore unable to lock the car at all)
Mike sorted the bonnet. Neil had previously pointed out a dodgy connection for the door/interior light switch. I managed to get some solder in there to improve the connection and it worked. Mysteriously though I could only lock the car with the bonnet open - closing the bonnet set the alarm off. Quick call to Ian and he reckoned it would be because the bonnet switch needed earthing. did that and it now works OK.
Just pottered about fitting bits here and there. Will probably need to do a lot tomorrow night (changed ride height, finish interior, fit heater pipes)
Neil's coming to finish polishing tomorrow and it goes in for the decals Tuesday morning.

When you hit that first French country road together with 20 other 911s it will all seem worth it
Only three days left at work!

Getting closer......
Neil polished the paint yesterday. Still a few little bits to sort out (like the couple of dings I've put in it already

) but they can wait until after CLM
After I'd washed it, it started to look shiny
While I was up at Mike's he mentioned the 3 nails in my back tyres

I ummed and ahhed about this and then my business partner talked some sense into me. Went home yesterday lunchtime and took the rear wheels off - took them to be repaired. Job done.
Last night I raised the rear and dropped the front a bit. All done by eye but I think it's about there. The front is on it's stops on the adjuster now to I'll need to re-index if I want to go any lower. Will see how it looks when it settles.
Also fitted some more interior - sill kick covers etc. There are still a few more interior bits (most notable is the sunvisors! - also interior lights and rear side capping) - I'll see how time goes tomorrow morning. Interior could also do with a good clean - still dirty from the crap in spite of being cleaned down several times. Again I'll see how tomorrow goes.
Dropped the car off for the vinyls this morning - he said he'd be there from 7:30 but I wasn't sure whether to believe him. Got there at 7:30 and he'd been at it since 5:00

Talked it all through with him. I was meant to be picking it up tomorrow but he said he'll need to get it done today as he's off tomorrow. So that's a bonus hopefully.
TBH last night I was fed up with the thought of "another f*cking night working on the car" - I've had so many where I've still been at it gone midnight (Did you know that radio 4 actually shuts down at 1:00am and they play the national anthem? Neither did I). That all changed when I washed it. Seeing the colour start to come through all shiny really really lifted me. Each of the jobs I did went well, and I was done by 10:00 as well. So went to bed a happy bunny
Nearly there.....
