I take it the engine is still a 3.0Lt Carrera engine at base,
if so there are 3 diffrent Disi' drives and also the drive gear on the crank has 2 types depending on the year and who did the recall on it in it's earler life,
I would not say it is the disi' suppliers fault,
I will find the info and send it down to you.
regards mike
Thanks Mike, much appreciated and would be nice to know.
Engine is the original 3.0 Carrera base. PET doesn’t list different ring gear options just different distributors and Porsche parts departments don’t have any info on ring gear dimensions.
The suppliers website is confusing as it states the dizzy is a fit for cars from 72 thru to 89 which obviously isn’t right, as you highlight there's not one fit for all!

So sorry to hear that Darren. It’s shitty now but will make it all the sweeter when it’s running properly

You must be absolutely gutted Darren, but on the plus side. It did sound good, very good. I bet first drive you have, it’ll become a keeper

That’s a real pisser, but trying to be zen, sometime shite happens… things with hindsight that were obvious, can be east missed at the time

Appreciate the kind words Gents
You have to share the bad as well as the good to keep things real and highlight that these projects whilst having incredible highs (just look at the pics!

), they can also have some brutal lows!!

....I don't think anything was missed or overlooked James, not that could be reasonably expected, and there was nothing to suggest anything was out and it's not like the dizzy was force fitted. The fact is the distributor was sold as an early part but had a later ring gear on it although it will be interesting to see what Mike sends through regarding spec and recalls etc.
Seasoned R Gruppe member Gordon in the States posted this observation which was also interesting...

My experience was tighter running clearance (backlash in distributor pinion) and higher quality parts. Documenting these changes is important for future work. The 930 pinion is larger than the 901. Porsche has always changed things enough that updating and backdating are difficult at best. We’ve been down the same journey you’re on now.

Set-backs and 'pauses' in these deep projects occur frequently and just have to be learnt from and detailed for others to understand.
You will soon be over this big one, I've had a lot doing (and running) the Lola, 2 gearbox rebuilds, 3 engine rebuilds, rear suspension collapse at speed and a slow speed front collapse.
I have been at fault for 2 of these and the others just miss fortune of used parts.
I am sure you went into this lovely car with eyes wide open and considerable experience too, but so close now, about a month away until this will be a memory and spring will be calling and Road Trips!

Sorry to hear mate, but that start-up sounds sooooo effing good

.....I am sure you and all involved will get it turned around and this will become just part of the journey.
In hindsight, we all should have bought 964RS' when we had the chance

.....but once you start to get some miles on those Flares, it will all be worth it.
Probably one of the coolest garage threesomes out there !

Sorry to hear of this setback Darren which understandably gives you a big downer but we’ve all seen your tenacity and determination and I’m sure you will drive this project to the finish line. I’m sure you will feel much better after your first drive. All the best.
Regards
Mike

Car looked amazing when I went to see Gary earlier today to pick up some metal brackets for my fibreglass ST bumper - the attention to detail is next level!

Hi Darren,
So sorry and shocked to read this. I saw your car when I picked mine up just before Christmas. It looked lovely in the flesh. Hang in there. It will get sorted. Once complete you will forget about the troubles in a year or so and you will have built something that has your hallmark on it.
