Not sure yet on who will paint the rest. There are a few places I’m going to ask to quote in the new year. I’d like to keep it fairly local so I can keep tabs on it.

There is a very local shop that has done some good work sorting our Mini. They have bit of a thing for E-Types so must have plenty of practice with a long sanding block!

6 hours of cleaning with 5 wire brushes, a box of scotch brite and a litre of panel wipe later:



And then 1 hour of painting: 2K epoxy.






Next step will be seam sealer and a second coat together with localised application of Raptor.
Really happy with the finish. I know it’s not factory, but it’s all covered up, and most importantly there is no rust, and it’s sealed in a rock hard 2K paint.

This is a great step isn't it.
A good coat of paint and it looks so uniform, but knowing all is so solid is so much better!
Has it really been 2 years?
Look forward to it being all sealed in 24 hours time

Do you any tips on how you can manage 6 hours on the car in a day without complaints from 'the management'?

We met when I was putting a VR6 engine into my Mk2 Golf, she knew what she was getting into

Boring painting saga episode 3:
Another day (or two) another painted bit (or two)

Do you think there is a link between the bits that are hardest to prep and paint being the ones that rust...



See that little white bit right in the middle? That’s the top of the rear 1/4 between the side and rear windows that’s normally got a lump of foam on it.

And can you reach it? Can you hell.

Got there today with the foam from a mini gloss roller tie wrapped to the end of a long rod. Not particularly scientific, but it’s got paint on now! It will get more once I spray Raptor and then again with Dinitrol etc etc.

Then the area around the torsion bar. A proper fiddly area, but got there in the end.
If I was doing this again I’d replace the LH seat base rather than patch it as it looks like something from Frankensteins lab.




Next step is the fuel tank area tomorrow before heading back to work so the pace will slow somewhat.

I’ve got a new plan for tomorrow that is the whole remaining underside cleaned and into epoxy.
Big day ahead so let’s see if this roll can continue!

Unfortunately late teenager has a full time job with weird shifts now, oh and doesn’t like getting covered in grinding crap

On target for full black by tonight. Just tidying up some historical repairs (of my own!) at the front first.

Done!

Then I remind myself I have seam sealer, a second coat of epoxy then Raptor to go and it seems a lot less finished

Oh, and the other sill, the RH rear wheel arch area, both A pillars and wing tops and the inside of both front wings....

Great stuff !

What plans for floor insulation Gary - the original bitumen-type stuff, or something more modern, or dare I say it, a paintable version?
