Cat B - compulsory that it be broken for spares. What an absurd waste.

Until you look at the inside and realise it is a health hazard and the engine/box/electronics/harness will have been full of water as well.

You could probably salvage brakes, wheels, glass, panels and maybe some of the plastics, but the rest is toast.

I’m not up to speed with the rules and regulations but could this be used as a track/hill climb car only?

Can I sell a CAT B Car?

A Category B car cannot be sold as a whole car, as its chassis and structural frame must be destroyed, however, all non-structural parts can be removed and sold, such as the engine, gearbox, suspension and wheels, should these parts be undamaged.

Who buys CAT B's?

Category B vehicles are commonly purchased by vehicle breakers. CAT Bs are purchased for breaking with the parts removed from a vehicle either sold as individual parts or used as part of a repair project.

Can I drive a CAT B Car? / Can a CAT B be returned to the road?

A Category B vehicle cannot be returned to the road, and therefore cannot be driven on public roads. However, parts from the car may be used in the repair of other vehicles.

Can CAT B's be used on the roads overseas or on a race track?

Copart's Terms and Conditions State that "Category B vehicles must never be returned to the public highway anywhere in the World. Furthermore, you promise that you will make no attempt to repair a Category B vehicle or sell a Category B vehicle for use on a public highway, a race track or at any off-track event."

Can I repair a CAT B Car?

Unlike Category S, N C and D, CAT B vehicles cannot be repaired and put back on the road. Fortunately, components from the CAT B vehicle can be removed and used in repairs of other vehicles.

Can I insure a CAT B Car?

As it is illegal to put a Category B back on public roads, insurers would not offer any insurance policies for a CAT B.

Can I export a CAT B Car?

I've probably not thought it through, but is there that much of the car and the tech that is nadgered by the water? The bodyshell? The motor and box? What health hazard is there?
I can understand if the shell needs to be crushed by law, but it's still a huge waste.

That mould would just brush off.

Not an expert but my understanding is you need a breaker's license to buy a Cat B and you're then required by law to break up the car unless you can get the Cat B rescinded by a new assessor. Don't rule out that there's a scam going on here where they Cat B it, sell it to a mate, who then gets the Cat B rescinded. The whole salvage business is packed with organised crime.

That is gorgeous! My dad (a Renault man) nearly bought one – it was the smoothest, quietest car we'd ever been in, but it had a gearbox whine, so dad said no...and bought another Renault.

Your spot on the money Pete, it’s my old car. What a complete waste.
Hexagon Classics had it up for sale in june this year for nudging £200k.
It got flooded up to the windscreen in July while in one of their storage
Facilities.
It also they overnight like that before anyone realised.
River burst its banks and flooded a storage area apparently.

I’d sold them the car 5/6 years ago when it was on 12500 miles. It’s done
Nothing since then.
Gutted looking at the pictures now. Such a waste.

That's one way of instantly selling a load of stock at full retail price. I'm in the wrong business.
