Well all I did was make tea and hold the oxy-acet torch for a proper old school panel beater, who was at my house with a collection of dollys and hammers to change the profile of my rear turbo arches to an ST inspired style.
What a joy to watch a real craftsman at work, and the result.....well chuffed....Mark

Thought I'd mark the end of BST and what's been a great year's motoring by having a 356 blast through the lanes as the sun went down.

Took one of the boys to Rugby training in 911 and felt guilty because its only 5 miles and I prefer a minimum distance of 12.

I paid my Hagerty insurance renewal. It came at £434 for £100k valuation which I have increased to £150k following a recent certificated valuation. The premium went up to £607. Can't really grumble but bring itso sharp contrast the increased running costs all owners are experiencing as a result of higher values across the board.

You need to set off earlier and take the long 'spirited' way round

I thought I would make use of the wonderful weather yesterday and went for a drive down to Goodwood to meet some friends for breakfast at the Goodwood Hotel - great food and service as ever.

Went home via the scenic route including some of my favourite roads in the area : B2141 to South Harting, B2146/B2147 to Havant and then B2148/B2149 to Horndean. The B2146 is particularly good if you haven't tried it and the combination of no traffic, beautiful autumn colours and dry roads was wonderful. Carried on via the back roads to my favourite Café in the area "Loomies". Sadly, it was their last day in business as their landlord wouldn't renew their lease but it was great to see over 500 bikers turn up to wish them farewell.

Got home and gave the car a good clean and topped up the wax - will hopefully get a few more drives in before the weather turns wintery. What a lovely way to spend a morning and reminded me how good these cars are

I'm at Center Parcs in Elveden for half term with the kids

Standing in the queue for the Typhoon Cyclone slide thing and thought I recognised a guy a few feet away

Obviously I was in my skimpy speedos so he didn't recognise me immediately

Anyway it was Brian from 1st tickets

He's here for the week with his family so we are going to try and catch up for a beer rather than standing and chatting admiring each other's swim wear - small world

Decided to check plug gaps then go for an Italian tune-up in West London - a difficult task

Started at the lock up in W14 .....get them plugs out .....best to do when not raining and plenty of sunlight..



Plugs were all gapped at about 1mm or 40 thou in old money , which is unusually big but that's what the engine builder recommends.....they all looked a bit sooty though which is a consequence of crawling round Central London with old school engine management ( ie no fuel injection metering or computers or sensors or adjustment by chip ).
Took a few go's to get started , usual business of refilling Solex float chambers with pedal pumping and 6 volt churning until plugs did their job .....its a skill I have to work on , coming from 12 volts and hi-torque starter on my old fuel injected 911E is not the same thing.

OK all good to go but could not back out of garage as another classic car was taking up the space , a sort of Jaguar...



After a bit of discussion , turns out he was going off for a blast around as had not run for a few months , so we set off together.....



Not too much excitement , headed west on Cromwell Road , then A4 to M4 , then I turned back before reaching M25 , as the usual Friday building up of traffic was developing....Jag last seen heading west. Next 356 trip is 200 miles north to Cheshire before the salt spreaders get out there.

the Jaguar was the Lynx XKSS that ORC had for sale for ages, now marked as sold.

Have spent the last few months fitting a few Porsche bits to the current project, does that count?



4.5" OEM Fuchs at the front, 356B brake drums with 356A rims at the rear, wood-rim steering wheel, box and linkage from a 356A...and a not so standard Dick Landy out the back

Jacked the 911 up, all 4 wheels off and jet-washed everywhere i could reach as the pre-winter clean-n-paint of the wheel arches.
Surprising number of patches to paint over from stone chips, but not rust.

Hope to get it all done this weekend before putting it to bed.
Not sure if to put it in storage like last winter or keep it at home.

Could do with the space to take the Lola apart to tidy a few things up.

I went to see Mr Bainbridge today.
