did you hire the circuit for your exclusive use or had everyone else gone home by then?!

Took mine out for a trip over to the DTA end of season meet in brum, good meet, some really nice vw and porsche content, and a good excuse to stretch the 912s legs

Now the engine and trans works like it used to , thought i would have a good clean around the wheel
arches, suspension and touch up the inevitable stone chips etc with black Smoothrite.

Well, found a small rust hole. First one since welding the car up in '88 so not too bad.
Of course, the small hole became a long hole, back of the drivers side rear floor, about 200mm x 30mm ish and quite flat, so a bonus.

Back then, 911's were not that precious (at least to me) but I'm a bit embarrassed with the welding finish i did back then, all 8 months of it.

Still, got on with it and after a few hours, no cursing (a first) the repair is primed and drying.
It made me think/remember how much hard work it is to do this kind of thing and the thought of the impending back-to-metal repaint soon to be tackled leaves me a bit cold. My Lola race car is so easy to work on by comparison...

No pictures because this is no 'Barry Shell' car, just one of a mere mortal.

Had a good feel/look.poke around the rest of the shell and all is tight, but several chipped areas and the most dented front crossmember in the world from a zillion jackings over the years.

Plan is to repaint the under floor and inner wings etc after a monster jet wash then to the race car and it's gearbox.

Started to check all the tappet clearances......split some of the new valvoline ('cos I forgot I had filled it).....jacked it up to get a lean and stop the leak and the jack skidded out of position...luckily no damage...note to self slow down and think......cleaned up the mess....finished checking and setting tappets. Went over to Canford to blag a strong cuppa.

Cleaned the 964 as I have an invite to breakfast at the crazy horse at BSE I don't know if I will make it to Colchester fer the Fessers

Stripped the carbs to check the spindle clearance...got a maximum of 0.2 mm movement. Not sure its worth boring the spindle bearings and fitting new . Think I'll get the spindles plated and repolish the diameter to take up a tiny bit. While I was in there I gave the main jet pick ups some more clearance and made some anti surge baffles, an effort to stop the momentary fuel starvation on hard lefts. Pic s later.

Final part arrived from Auto Atlanta to fit my Radio, which I did today. Many thanks goes to Garry (Visualfx) for covering the radio plate and Mike (Chromelondon) for the chrome surround.



As the car was out of the garage it would have been rude not to give a blast (not that you can around busy London) so picked my son up from Gymnastics.

Took my yellow car out for a good drive yesterday. Before hand I had to run my daughter around for dance stuff and assess parked in 'Sallys' wholesale hairdressing outlet a guy pulled up as he saw my car in the car park

Turns out he's local and building a 72 in ST style with a genuine 2.7 RS engine in the back. It's ivory and will be on the road later next year.

He's into his hill climbs so will be using it for that amongst other things

Using it for hillclimbs?

Andy; have you looked at the anti-surge plates in Bruce Anderson's book?
ps: How could you dream of selling the car?

Correct, left knob is for the rear heated screen, right knob is the cigarette lighter.

Hi no I haven't I'll have a decco,

Had a decco' .....exactly what I did. Thanks for the reference though. Just sourced spindle bushes and spindles too

Had another look under the 911 this afternoon after a party in Wales over the weekend, so maybe a little worse for wear...

Decided to have a good re-paint under the arches and sills means the oil cooler pipes have to come away/off the car.
I hope those 5 x M6 bolts come out of their Nutcerts I fitted 20 years ago, but nothing is ever easy is it?
Lots of small chips out of the arch paint. Refreshingly little oil anywhere!
