Attended the PCI track day at Kirkistown, sat in with a couple of the guys for a few laps, not sure I'm the world's best passenger

Took the old 911 out for a test run after replacing the wobbly/duff clutch and there are no vibrations at all other than the normal vibs on the after run with semi-solid engine mounts.

Goes like stink.
Sort of stops.
Steers and handles an absolute dream after SVP fettled it.

More gentle run tomorrow with the wife on board.

Back to normal then (I hope)

Floor needs some cleaning up, and the edges of the sills etc after I painted them in 1989.


Took tax disc out now it is a Historic Vehicle.

Odd feeling to do that after all the years, but that saving will pay for the insurance next year.

Gave the old girl a good autumn clean today...

Took the new-clutched 911 and the wife to the Breakfast Club at Shelsley Walsh hillclimb for a dawn run with mist and storybook countryside.

A zillion cars there even by 9.00am, most very nice.

Wife wants a TR 4A, dark blue with a surrey hardtop.

Car ran as sweet as it ever has, but thinking of removing the semi-solid engine/box mounts for stock or CS rubber mounts.

Classic car mojo returning, but on a morning like this how can you not fall in love?

Drove down from Daventry in horrid conditions! Seeing that I now only have lap belts in the front. I'm very careful about keeping a good distance between me and the car in front.

Removed back box,with a view to tidying it up.
Any recommendations as to which paint would be most suitable for the job?

Thought it was about time for a service so took it out for a run to warm the oil through, then burnt my finger draining it

Unfortunately whilst underneath I found that two of my CV boots that I replaced recently had come unclipped and sprayed all the grease out, so the joints will need replacement as they have been well and truly thrashed whilst dry! For completeness all four will get done.. More money I wasn't planning to spend!

Also on the list is to replace the brake fluid, stop the heater rattling, tidy up some wiring and generally run a spanner over it!

I've tried several different exhaust paints on 911 rear silencers over the years & had reasonable success with a brush-on paint from Frost - think it was called 'Manifold Gray' (yes, the US spelling).

The best treatment (in terms of appearance & longevity) - apart from the very expensive ceramic coating I had done on a 911R exhaust system - was VHT 'Cast Iron' high temp spray:



However, you need to get the silencer media-blasted (ideally beads or glass) to give the paint something to key to.

I took my 993 for a good drive today. Out to North Norfolk. Nice lunch and back again. Just me and my thoughts
