There is quite literally nothing I don't like about this car.

It's just good decision after good decision after good decision.

Waaay cool, Darren.

Looks pretty good to me Darren.
I'd always wondered about how orange on orange would look. I'm guessing it looks even better in the flesh. 8)

.....what, not even the dodgy painted rear grill or the lack of big flares and wide wheels, or the common as mud colour or.......

Thanks Matt and the rest of you guys for the kind words, much appreciated :)

....look forward to meeting Richard although for the car to get there I'll need to be very lucky!

When fitting the wheels we discovered that these fouled the oil coolers which requires modification to the custom brackets.....Gary is currently having fun spannering for a friend in the Isle of Man, hopefully he'll be back in time to sort this, tracking and anything else needed for an MOT.

Car is now with Redtek and there's still a bit work required to finish and fit the engine, who knows what might crop up here.......at least we know the MFI pump works perfectly straight out of the box as it was tested on another 2.5 SS engine so that's one big hurdle....

.....fingers crossed for Hedingham.

Cheers,

It's not bad for a T.

I like the Orange/Orange - works well - car is starting to look really cool.

Is that front bumper strip a bit wonky or is it just the camera angle ;)

Been offline for a bit so great to catch up with this Darren... looks bloody gorgeous.

I googled the meaning of the idiom "Done to a T" and it says "Perfectly, Exactly Right."

You've definitely Done it to a T!

Look forward to seeing & hearing that Mongrel bark. 8)

One of the few original items I've retained on this car is the paint code plate....

Image

....those who know will tell you that these later plates comprised of 3 digits being the actual paint code, the single middle digit indicating the place of manufacture, with the final single digit highlighting the paint supplier......my plate identifies my car as 131, Light Ivory, so I guess it would have made sense to change it to 018, Tangerine.

However what my plate also highlights is an '8' for place of manufacture?.....

.....now the vast majority of all standard 911's will show a '9' as the centre digit indicating 'Factory' as place of manufacture.....to the best of my knowledge (bar one or two exceptions) the central digit '8' is only found on the Carrera 2.7RS.....from what I can tell (at this time), exactly where or what the number 8 signifies is a complete mystery to all......even when visiting Porsche Classic a few years ago I asked Jochen Bader the question which was then put to an old factory employee and even he could shed no light.......this central number 8 on just a few early 911's remains a secret that may be lost for all time!

Maybe my Mongrel was a 'test' car used as practice at a new facility created to produce the mighty 2.7RS....maybe my car was destined for greater things until fate steered it to becoming a modest 2.4E Sporto......who knows?....

...for sure, if my car ever had ambitions to be something a little different from the norm it has now reached that goal........as for the number 8?......I'll go with the Chinese and treat it as a symbol of luck....

....I sure do feel lucky! :)

Have you got a quieter exhaust option as well?
