You need to make width in that space, too much wood on the floor, very very space-hungry.
Get a skip and put your ruthless hat on and go to war with it. Goes for all the 'I'll just keep this as I will need it (much) later' stuff.

You have to take no prisoners to get it clear. High shelving is a good friend too.
Uses wood up as you know.

Chilly nights are not too far away despite this odd warm week, summer's almost done for.

Thanks for the advice, Graham. And I've seen your garage, it IS super-neat. The advantages of having a double. Thankfully I get no grief, regardless how messy it gets. Sarah and I have an agreement regarding the garage, which is that she does not enter. It' a rule she's fine with - there are quid pro quo's such as she is in charge in the kitchen, which is how she likes it.

You're right about getting rid of tat. However it turns out I've just bought a large air compressor, three angle grinders, and a load of discs, some step ladders, ten engineer's hammers, some assorted tools, allen keys and rivet punches, which come next week! This is mitigated slightly by an under counter trolley and various stackable boxes to put stuff in. Pretty sure I have a problem.

Time to make some storage to hang all the long items I keep behind the door. I'd like this door opening freely at all times in the future.



It's my own design. I cut some pieces of mdf so items can hang in front of each other.



Tee nuts in the back



Glued and screwed into a stepped shape.



6mm threaded rod cut to length for "hooks"



And in situ... I added some more concrete screws to combat gravity once it's loaded up.



And loaded up... I'm surprised how well this works. Finally the door goes all the way open when you push it.

I've been in here pretty frequently for the past two or three weeks.

With a couple of bricklaying ties I got these tools up on the wall.





Got a few bits up on some spare wall space here.



This spot under the workbemch was OK for a couple of wood saws but I wanted to accommodate some more.



So I bent this bit of pipe into a saw holder.





I got this surface cleared up.



Remember this bit of floor space you couldn't see before.

Well done Rob . You got that sorted quickly. It's a nice feeling when you've all your stuff where you can find it.

The garage continues to fluctuate between moderately tidy and looking like a hurricane just tore through it. I received a few choice items at Christmas, some stubby ratchet ring spanners, and a twisty handle socket ratchet.



And this funky cabinet picked up from the auctions this week is a game changer. Amazing how much stuff it's swallowed already and only half full.





My study is currently at peak capacity of car parts. My dad came round today and didn't miss the chance to tell me to get rid of some stuff. Halfway through tidying it up I lost the will to go on. I'll have to finish that off tomorrow because the girls have their music lessons in there.

Brilliant cabinet

A word of warning - if you tidy (& hide) too well, then you’ll not be able to find things when you need them. A good excuse to buy more things though. Don’t ask me how I know.

TOOOO much stuff in there.

Putting it all away and you will loose things! You will forget which bin, tray, box, corner, shelf you have the 'essentials' let alone the things you have stored 'just in case'

There will be that nagging question in your mind when you need something 'wonder where I put that because i think i have one (somewhere)'

If things are in the open and visible you stand a very good chance of finding what you want and the tool you bought 3 years ago for the job you are doing today!

This is why I have the UK's most enviable collection of oil filter removing tools; spikes, chains, grips etc, but now just keep the one that does all my regular oil changes in the small cabinet I have.

Every working garage need a spring clean and a trip to the tip, and if you restored 2 wheeled things, 3 trips to the tip...
