I managed to rip all my CDs successfully with a few years ago. But even that had now been superceded by a steaming service now. Basically all the music on the world (almost) to listen to any place in the world.

Indeed and I still have all my vinyl and a trusty LP12 to play it on. I still buy the occasional record as well although don't like the fact that it's trendy and very expensive.

I miss the days as a student when I used to buy albums by unknown (to me) artists because of their artwork. It's how I discovered New Riders of the Purple Sage, seeing their album Panama Red in all its glory. Personal faves were any album by Quicksilver Messenger Service. Fabulous art. You don't get any of that thrill with CDs or streaming...

I guess that's not surprising. I have bought some used LPs from the internet (discogs etc) and they are very variable. I've had to get money back on several occasions. I'd love the idea of buying lots of old stuff (70s and 80s reggae for example), it's not been a fab experience. Stuff at charity shops is likely to be worse overall I would have thought.

Bought a used Mighty Diamonds album at the weekend, saw a record fair in Winchester when we were visiting the moon there in the cathedral.

The standard pricing of used vinyl was £20 from all the vendors there. It's a bit scrunchy but ok enough to listen to. Certainly a lottery as you can't really tell the condition from looking.

Yes it would seem so. There was a stall in the market there with albums at that price plus the record fair all the same.

I ordered CD versions of the Operas I had been trying to listen to. What a difference in quality! I'm not sure I believe in vinyls anymore. Love the artwork but for sound. I think Ashley, who was in the speaker business, already pointed this out

Just to put some life back into this thread. I've been added to the family Spotify account. So much music available. I'm presently chrome casting to the Yamaha receiver from my mobile. I gave up on Bluetooth as the stream kept getting delayed. The sound quality of the surround sound is pretty good for movies but a little lacking for stereo music. I might get to setup another system in my upstairs office (which has almost been uncluttered). Perhaps with some better stereo speakers.

Seems that streamers have moved on quite a bit in the last few years. However, if I go down the route of having an analogue amp then I need a DAC to convert the digital sign but do I need a streamer? Can't I just chromecast into the DAC and the phone is the streamer? Same digital fees surely?

It strikes me that there are many choices to accomplish streaming. Bewilderingly so! Being quite old fashioned I quite like a room setup that doesn't rely on a phone being there, so I would look at having a streamer of some description. Obviously it depends on what level and budget you want to aim at.

Hi Neil, One of my sons runs a fibre optic output from his pc sending streamed digital data to a DAC amplifier input. Could also use USB if it's not too long, but fibre more noise immune. Guess you'll have a pc in your office anyway.
