A little update from my visit to Gary on Thursday....

Image

...plumbing for the engine now tidied and pretty much complete....

Image

Image

Image

Image

...with gearbox plumbing in progress...

Image

Image

...the hard lines for the gearbox are straight here and don't wrap around the jacking point as the per the other side...

Image

...they also aren't clamped and are fitted with p-clips screwed straight into the sills, very agricultural!....

Image

...Gary is using male to male fittings for the ends of the pipes with one end machined off and rebated to be soldered to the hard lines. We'll wait until the gearbox is in before finishing to ensure they're the correct length...

Image

Image

...one thing Gary did notice when referencing this area is that the body seam where the flexi lines cross is bashed down for clearance, again pretty rough and ready!....

Image

Image

Image

Image

...after taking an angle grinding to the rear chassis legs recently I'm glad I wasn't there to watch when Gary got busy with his lump hammer!.....all now sorted and touched in...

...washer bottle fitted just as they were...

Image

...although the originals were flat on one side, presumably to clear the back cover. I can't imagine the bottle was a different part and assume these were modified in this way? I'll have to get busy with a heat gun or hot metal plate to try and replicate the same...

...the original RS's came fitted with small rear 356 reflectors robbed straight from the Porsche spare parts bin...

Image

...here I have a small dilemma....if I was building a straightforward RS rep I'd certainly fit these however the premise of my build is that it started life as a standard RS road car and was then modified in period with RSR spec engine and suspension etc. With the car now having twin out exhausts it's conceivable that they would been refitted and they certainly don't add to the line at the rear and are a little messy. I was going to leave them off, as with many original cars, although recently noted that they remain on the Bamford car which also has twin rear pipes (unfortunately I don't have a good full rear pic of this car if anyone can help?)...

Image

...Gary has offered me a couple of rear reflectors, not sure if correct or from what year these are, and I do think they're pretty cool items but am in two minds whether to fit or not? What do you think?...

...car is booked in with Centre Gravity for the 24th June, it should look pretty much like a finished car by then. Hopefully with side script too :)

.

Every aspect of the car looks stunning Darren - you must be very pleased with how it's turning/turned out.

Regarding the rear reflectors combined with the dual exhaust outlets, I'm sure you must have seen this picture of Bamford's car:

Unfortunately the reflectors are very much 'in the shadows' ...

Thanks Andy, yes really happy with how it's all coming together. Gary has a real passion for the build and is more particular than me with details, we work well together and he never tires of the barrage of reference pics sent to him!

Appreciate the input and reminder of that pic, brightening the lower section helps a bit.

Maybe a bit busy with the twin pipes and certainly cleaner without the reflectors although they do look right on #9099...

...I'll probably wait until the car's pretty much complete and make a final decision then.
