I fitted the radio today....first time in my 15 years of ownership that it's had something that fills the gap.

And it works too I was really surprised at how good the sound actually is. And I was worried I might not be able to get anything FM as it came from the States. But it works really well for Radio 5 Live and stuff on FM is really good reception.





Just the door pockets to do and setting the fog lights properly and we're done Went to Alan's this week and he sorted the fettling of the targa top - fair play, they spent about 10 man hours on it and didn't charge me more than the original price of the refirb. That's great customer service. It is now whistle and roar-free, I can even hear the radio well at 70mph

As James can attest, it was a bit noisy before, but now it's sorted it's completely transformed the car.

No where else I'd rather be on a lovely autumn day ....

James, TLC. Cant believe it, new plugs, new leads, new dizzy rotor arm, new fuel lines as the cold starter line was split like you wouldnt believe, quick tune and hey presto, were up and running.

at this rate we might have both our yellow cars actually running well in 2015

Yep - but targas are a funny beast, there are loads of fiddly little changes that make all the difference - I also found that the 'whistle' was coming in through the quarter-lights themselves. A quick tug and they were all sealed and silent. We even got to the stage where we were taking powder coat off the back of the clips that hold the leading edge down - made the whole thing tighter.

Also turned out that the lid catches were worn so we improvised some extra purchase on the top of the windscreen frame and that pulled it all much tighter.

Now all four corners are tight, leading and trailing edges are snug fits and the re-work on the front seal made a massive difference.

All good.

Are we thinking that we could get a Northern run in before the weather turns terminally crap? Would be well up for that.

I drove my 1972 2.4S for the first time in 14 yrs. I virtually wrote it off in March 2000 on the West Cork Rally and gave it to Colin at 9M in Warrington two years ago to restore. Collected it Monday and trailered it home to Cork, Ireland. Today went on a drive, 250 kms/160 mls in Cork and Waterford. Went well.

I bought the car 26yrs ago for £5,500 in 1988. I rallied, raced, hillclimbed, night nav'd and even did a petrol economy run in it . Did over 150 motorsport events. Now today it's new life begins.

Wan't there a PCI run out that way from Cork today too?

Yes, that was us ! I did the first half but the road they picked were a bit rough ( when done at a fast speed ) for me on a first run in the newly rebuilt car so I cut short and made my own way back on a longer and slower route. And I'm the President of PCi, it might amount to desertion in other times.
Do join us on a run or Tues Night get together , we wont bite you and no need to bring a Porsche. Many modern Irish ones are forced to SORN them due to our crazy/expensive road tax over the winters.

Took the engine out this morning in a lazy 2.75 hours, usual snags and tribulations. Seems to come out differently every time, this is the 20th time it's been out...

Reason for the removal was is trace the vibration at 3000 rpm which on the last short run was getting much worse. When i pressed the clutch pedal in the vibration cleared, came back at 3K etc.

Could be the clutch 'system' but decided to pull the lot out in case it might be something else and have a good mooch round.

Well, it is the clutch but not what happened to hot66 but the diaphragm spring rubbing on the release fork body. Never had this before ever and this car has had about 15 clutches.

I guess it could be the way I have adjusted it, but it has the stock 3.2 helper system and that has never been an issue before. New cable etc about 2K miles ago.

Actual clutch is fine so is the release bearing, quiet and very smooth and only just loose on the diaphragm fingers.

Thus, the spring must have been 'just' touching the fork body hence the vibration, but this surely would have been throughout the rev range, but at higher (than 3K) maybe the vibs just became a single noise?

Anyway, I will have to fit a new clutch assy now, can put the old in and keep my spanners crossed all will be well.

If anyone can suggest another reason for the vibs at 3K please please post!

Many thanks to Grannysmith (Mick) and to James TheEasyLife for your help in getting the screen refitted, now with the Bright Anodised trim.
In the end, new trims, and a new front screen rubber did the trick, and Mick having done the job before ! Another job off the To-do list.

Hmm that's odd the fingers are touching the pivot bosses which are fixed, is there some kind of crankshaft end float issue here?
