Does anyone out there know the best way to pick up the timing signal for the Brantz 2 tripmeter. Mine is installed...but there seems to be a confusion as to how the sensor is fixed to pick up the on/off switching as the disc rotates.
The sensor has been fitted to the front RH suspension leg and the signal is supposed to be broken by a bolt on the disc. However, this is not happening at the moment.
Help!

Think we discussed this at the HRCR open day.
I'm assuming you've taken the car for a drive and you're not getting the unit to count at all.
Two things to suspect is that the proximity switch (sensor) is too far from the bolt head to register or that it is too close to the bolt head and is sensing the disk mass as well as the bolt. I assume you're picking up of the disk mounting bolts? did you extend the bolts to nake then stand pround of the surrounding disk?
Third thing could be a defective sensor. Fourth could be miswiring.
My suggestion is to test the sensor first by removing it from its bracket on the wheel hub and manually move it into and out of contact of some metal. This should start to send pulses to the unit and if you have the calibration digits set to very low then you should start to see the unit counting. Cant remember the ratio, you might need ten or so pulses from the sensor to get the unit to read.
If you'd like me to check I can always go and see what happens with mine.
If this is all a bit awkward, then an alternative question is how close is the sensor to the bolt head? It needs to be within a millimeter or so I seem to remember.

Now a calculation point...
If I extend all the bolts (5) then when setting up, should I start the measured mile calibration at 500 rather than the 100 as stated in the manual? Presumably any reading would then have to be divided by 5 before the final setting is inputted? I would also suspect that that setting would give extremely accurate readings...
I'll get there, eventually...but as the 912 will next be properly used at the end of April, on its way to Wick for the start of the Cape to Cape Tour, I'm not in a great hurry, yet.

So, I've just been out to the garage. With 185/70 15 tyres assuming you are picking up on 5 bolts per revolution then you wont be far off a measured mile with a calibration setting of 372.
To ensure you dont need too many pulses to get the unit counting set the calibration digits between 1 and 10. 10 seems to be iro 1 count per rev and 1 seems to give bursts of counts.calibration of 0 doesn't seem to count. Suspect there's a divide by 0 issue here.
My bet from what you say is that you need to make your bolts stand out more proud from the surrounding disc. If you've checked that your sensor is close enough to bolt heads at the mo. and you know it works by manually triggering it then I can't think what else it can be.

Rafiki - do you have any pictures or details of how you fitted the unit and sensors to you car. I am looking in to a Brantz 2 for my 73T but haven't actually seen any detailed installation instructiuons. Where do you bring the wires from, and how do they get through the bulkhead etc.
