the sad thing is that before i cut the badly welded in panel out it all looked reasonably ok!!

A warning to anyone buying a 14 that what looks solid is not always as solid as you think.

I remember the 914 I bought from Phil Johnson a few years back - on the outside it didn't look too bad then on closer inspection most of the inner structure around the battery area had just disappeared!

I was lucky with my orange '14 that someone else had done all the welding prior to my buying it and had done a pretty good job. Shame the then owner decided to drive into something at high velocity and shorten the car somewhat!

That goes for all cars in my experience :P My teener looks super solid but I won't deny I'm feeling a little worried about actually strippinf all the paint off :)
