Any else noticed the bickering (to put it mildly) going on over at 914club.com ? A shame cos it was a useful site. Lets hope the same never happens to DDK.

Certainly is a shame as the site held a wealth of fantastic information. I've spent hours reading old posts there learning about the '14. I also hope it regains some sort of normality. Seem like an case of handbags to me

All it ever took was just one word out of context and a huge argument erupted! I guess what has happened was forseeable.

After reading what went on from both sides on both 914club.com and the new 914club.info I think it's going to be a while before the dust settles.

without us all having to register and hunt around the forum can somebody summarise the situation in a not too gossipy manner (we're not like that here  )

Am I just being lazy?

I've just tried to write down my view on the situation but found it difficult without pointing fingers at people. Something I won't and don't do.

So really basically... There's been a row the club money was tranferred by someone without authorisation. Site was closed by admins. Admins split, now 914club.com is run by the one guy and all the others have started 914club.info.

There's a lot more to it than that, and it all looks a bit messy. Hopefully it'll resolve itself but I do think it'll take a while. In the meantime I'll sit back and hope normal service is resumed. :)

You're not lazy, probably sensible.
I didn't put any details because :
(A) I didn't want to put my spin on things and
(B) It's virtually impossible to work it out and
(C) I was hoping someone would enlighten me.

However......basically it appears that the site management have had a big
fallout over all sort of things based around the general way that the site
should be run but what seems to have been the last straw was one of
them wanting to be paid/compensated for the work/time/hosting etc.
When the rest of them disagreed he did something techy with the domain
name, wanted $10K to sell it back to them and it's gone downhill from
there. Now there are 3 or 4 sites with 914 in the name, all sorts of
namecalling and puerility etc etc. ALLEDGEDLY !! And a great technical
resource has been lost, but possibly only temporarily.
Refer back to A B and C - I may have it completely wrong but it's
definitely a shame. There's a lot of bad feeling about it and where once
you could go to one point for all sorts of info it is now non existant and
even when it does re-surface it will be watered down and harder to find.
Just as I started to get going on my basket case as well ! Poo !!

Just don't tell the wife - I've told her I'm prepping the lawn mower for it's winter lay up.

It's mostly a case of big mouths and thin skins. The dust will settle, and I don't believe we'll lose the old posts.

In the meantime, there is a 'mostly' neutral place to meet. More chat room than hard tech data, but you can still post a question and probably get a reply there.

It is tasteful isn't it ? Nothing to do with me though - one of many previous owners. 8 between '74 and '88 according to the log book.

Now stop it or I'll be in trouble - I'm starting a new thread on this rusto/resto project and you can look at the gold stripes on that.
