914 GT parts - hood pin kit & cable headlight kit ?

Post by amallagh »

Anybody know where to get a prefabricated front hood GT replica 4 pin kit. (square plates)

Also interested in anyone who can supply a GT cable operated head light kit ?

I made my own pin plates - alloy sheet and a jigsaw. Pins themselves easy to get ~£6 for a pair as I recall

not sure where you can get the cable operated lamp units though - I have kept the motors.

1972 914/6 GT replica - 2.7 - signal orange.

I know there's talk of a Cable kit for the front lamps on 914.com when it will be available I don't know.
I'm wondering what continuous pushing on the headlamp-lids to close them will do for a very awkward area of panel fit :?

The cable-operated headlamp kit is available from Knuepfing Motorsport (& possibly Mittelmotor) in Germany but price is aound £250.

I think the kit talked about on 914club.com will be significantly cheaper...

if I got this right, the guys at the 914Club thought about buying one set from Knüpfing and then do a cheaper reproduction

for my understanding the set from Knüpfing has to be more or less identically to the factory parts - he already fully restored at least 2 factory 914-6 GTs

I'm surprised it's only £250 I reckon that's a not a bad price for a kit

I knew I'd seen one somewhere...

Currently for sale on ebay Germany. I'd get in quick as there's only just over a day left to bid.

Thanks a lot. I'll bid. Not hard to make some as a few people have pointed out but I really hate sending nights in the garage on cold winter evenings !
Lets hope the cable headlight kit comes off on 914club. That thread has been active for quite a while now. If there is anyone else wanting sone in the UK do we want nein14 to send them over in a batch to the UK ?

I'd be up for that - if we can get some sort of bulk buy bargain

914GT CABLE LIGHT KIT

Post by amallagh »

I'll could start up a specific thread to see who might be interested in a group buy from nein14 on 914club.
But lets have a think about the logistics -
I'm aware I am quite new to this Site but somebody would need to co-ordinate a bulk buy. Doubt whether it would be much cheaper to buy kits but would save on postage by sharing the costs as well as making things easier for nein14. Not sure if this is worthwhile or not ? If they are the same price from nein914 then would save on individual postage from the US to the UK but would need to add on postage within the UK to send them on. Overall it would certainly cost less but maybe not enough to make it worthwhile ? It would be more significant if the items were heavy but if each kit weighs about 1-1.5kg it would cost about £28 to send each one individually from UK to USA. (Rates are usually a bit cheaper the other way round) 10 kits would be about £90. Add on say £3 postage per item to send on within the UK then saving would be about £13/kit by the time we had collected money together including Paypal fees. Given all the extra work involved it probably isn't worth it for the postage saving alone.
Only way to make it more worthwhile would be to get a special deal off nein914 on the costs of the kits themselves as well. He might say do kits for $50 less per kit if we bought 10 together ?
Does anyone know nein914 well enough to ask ?

GT cable headlight kit lost ? or gone forever ?

Post by amallagh »

With the split of 914club and loss of the thread regarding the GT cable light kit I'm nit sure where nein914 has gone.
Posted a thread a couple of days ago asking if the idea was still live but received no replies. If anyone else sees it reappear on one of the 'new' sites then please let us know

Great, glad you won the auction, and for a pretty good price too :)

Sorry can't help being nosey
