this is how the story goes
I run a vw restoration shop speacialising in the type 2 ,but also had a passion for the 914 having owned one a 5 years ago but then had to sell it when I started the business as I needed some capitol
This year I started a restoration project on a 1974 us import basically the car had been stripped and used as donor for some one who was rebuilding a 914/6 so when I got it it was in a pretty sorry state having been raped of its trim and bumpers etc but the body seemed to be in good order ,untill I dug further ,which from restoring bus's for a living this came as no suprise ,but now the body is back up to being very solid indeed with many new panels and fabricated ones being let in it is now ready for the final prep and paint !
Just As I finished the welding on the body An old chap from the local village was passing and noticed the 914 tucked inside the workshop and happened to mention that he bought one of these back in 1976 and stopped driving it in the 80's when he had to have a knee op and has'nt driven it since ,we got chatting turns it been in his heated garage ever since ,I went to see the car today and it urned out to be a very good example of 1972 US improt that has not been on the road for nearly 20 years, needless to say we struck a deal and I am collecting it tomorrow
Which leaves me with a rolling shell surplus to requirements so if anybody is out there with or knows anybody with a rotten body and wants all the hard work ready done then drop me a line, the shell can be finished in the colour of your choice or just primed ready
