Wheel fitment

Post by swapped »

Morning.

Still learning...

So, the standard wheel fitment is 5.5" width, 4 x 130, ET35 - were they all 15"?

How close is that to Beetle fitment, and how sensitive is the offset?

If I see a nice set of 15", 5.5inch wheels being sold to fit a Beetle, can I buy them for my 914?

I thought the 914/4 offset was ET40/42. The OEM GT style rims on my blue '75 914/4 were certainly ET40.
Standard Beetle offset is mostly ET34 (GT style included)
The aftermarket wheels are all over the place regards offset.
914/4s handle so much better with the correct offset. I had a set of EMPI 8 spoke reps. & they were ET19, the face of rears had been machined (!)to clear the rear wings, they still rubbed & looked crap.
I'd suggest getting the right wheels.

Thanks - I don't have any original wheels, so I had to look it up on line...

I'm sure - mine feels fine on it's revolutions, but I haven't had one off and had a good look for markings yet.

I'd love to keep to the 'correct' wheels, but that might conflict with my budget!

ET19 is an awful long way off ET40! - I was thinking more along the lines of those ET34s.

Many thanks for the details.
