What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?

Finally completed an ongoing LED bulb upgrade with two pairs of the recently released H1 replacements from classiccarleds.co.uk (4300k warm white / 2200 lumen per bulb), in addition to side lights and rear tail / brake lights I'd previously done:

Hopefully I'll be able to see where I'm going when coming back from Arnage & Mulsanne late at night now!...

Picked up the 912e after its second (partial) engine rebuild in 5 years. Trying to get some miles on it now. One thing and open to suggestions please, I noticed on acceleration a lot more noise / vibration coming through the trans tunnel / gearbox. Any quick fixes before i drop it in after 1000 miles.

Really hard to say- presume you picked up all installed?

I would be thinking;

- Engine / transmission mount worn or damaged (might see by movement revving stationary)
- Exhaust blowing / interfering with something else or the body
- Gear linkage out of line and touching something in the tunnel
- Missing cover plates / rubbers etc between box and body

Might just be running a little off (timing / fuelling) etc. It could just be your memory after some time to driving the Boxster!

Hope that points you on some sensible direction - enjoy having it back again!

Many years ago I had something similar in my 73T when i installed the 3.2 engine and it's 915 trans (in 1995).
Turned out the rear anti roll bar 'just' touched the gearbox cross member on acceleration, the drive train twists a bit when working and on easy throttle it relaxes back and the vibration goes.

I added a 3mm alloy spacer and that gave more clearance.

You need to look closely.

Just bought the same thing, delivery expected today. Took mine for a MOT last week and as he was testing the lights, one of them blew, DOH. Also gone for the warm white option

Thanks for all the suggestions, will have a proper look over this weekend. I think my first port of call will be having a look at the shift coupler area and go from there.

Spent an hour tonight just tidying HT leads and bits. Rest of engine now all back together, rebuilt tensioners, new external gaskets, hoses, fixings etc.

Box will be back from Mike B soon so time to get it back on the road

Gary, engine will go back in dead easy with the engine hoist, 3 hours max from start to start up. Good luck with the bloody CV gaskets.

Fab days weather here, so messed about with the 911 this afternoon starting with getting the winter cover off, car surprisingly dusty. I think the cover has lost it's value.

Charged the batteries for 5 mins which is when the green light stayed on, = FULL.
Pressed the brake pedal hard, all good from the bleed some 4 months ago. The all-new brakes yet to see the road. If these brakes are poor i think a Boxster conversion will be needed.
Oiled the rear cover pull release wire and it freed up really well, it was getting really stiff to pull open.
Fixed the frunk side carpet push clips, a job long overdue so the frunk look almost good now.

Found the head rest on the passenger side had ripped, just old age, so some upholstery glue fixed that, but you can see it. Have the driver's seat up in the attic so might swop them over.

These are Turino seats, bought for £50 the pair from Josh Saddler at an early Husbourne Crawley autojumble (those were the days....).
I found them very uncomfortable, wife ok with hers, but my Sparco FIA racing seat is far better, my early days hillclimbing in this car.

Several other bits n bobs done, so a nice afternoon.

Need to order my new tyres now.

Uncovered the sleeping Lola hillclimb car, a big clean coming up as the first event is about 5 weeks away, finally.

No CV gaskets on mine as I’ve got the caps I modified years back to hold the grease in both ends. Still hateful!

Had a Mother’s Day treat of collecting my gearbox (Well boxes of parts anyway!) from Mike B up North, back home and cleaning the arse of my engine whilst BBQing lunch in the rain!

Actual exhausts are like a well seasoned wok, so no chance that is coming off but the heat exchangers clean up well.

The SSI's on my 911 came from MikeB, they might be the early Dansk ones though.
They were off a gravel rally 911....look like a Jamaican steel drum, but work fine and were cheap! Needed a touch of stainless MIG welding to stop the boxes rattling on the tubes.

Been a long time since going up to the Lakes.

Took my 356 out on Sunday to have lunch with my Mum. Quite heavy rain on the way back. When it sat outside for 90 mins well we changed brakes pads on a son's bike in the garage. Yamaha on the 900 tdm why have the exhaust so close to the caliper? What a pain! My son had also worn his pads down to the metal so had bought a new disc. However, his old disc was still smooth and wider then the replacement disc so we left it on. The other son changed his chain.

Anyway the 356 ran great and started perfectly. Just on oil change, door card back on and a spare coil then we are ready for the Euro trip.

Surrounded by 'Tyre Issues' on 3 cars, so pulled the trigger on 4 x Continental Premium Contact 6 tyres as abused by Sladey and Gary and others.

Kwik fit were the best deal locally and some other suppliers no longer listed the tyre. Oddly difficult to buy them on line with 'Charlie' the robot helper frustrating the game no end.

Because I had 4, free driveway fitting for £97 each. Going on next week as a birthday present.
At least I can remove the wheels myself before they arrive and clean off the old weights etc. Doubt the fitter will have been to a 1973 911 before.

Be good to see the 9 year old Dunlops gone.
