stud length - pnaaaar

going to buy some studs to fit to machined 914 hubs to fit 5 spoke fuchs - question is what length studs do i order? using std alloy nuts and will be having bosses fitted to rear of hub to strengthen/build up thickness.

Kev: I can't see that you will be able to find out the length until the strengthening boss's have been welded on and machined back. Once done I'd have thought you could just offer up the bare (unattached) hub to one of the wheels with a hub nut sitting in it's recess (on the wheel). You could then measure through the nut, hub and down to the bottom of the hub's reinforcing boss, therefore giving the effective length. You could just stick a pencil or something through and mark it, as it might be a bit tight trying to get a tape measure through .

All you then would add on would be the depth of the stud 'head'.

But then, I expect you've done all of this anyway?

50mm I think will do you Kev and I'm pretty sure you can use late 944 ones, that's the standard length and I think that's what mine were too, there's plenty of thread available for the wheel nuts and I shouldnt imagine there'd be a problem with your wheels, what size are they again?

Hi guys, I think 50mm will do it after a quick measure up. i compared my front ones and the stud thread sticks out about 12mm past the flat surface of the wheel giving the nut about 16mm to grip on to.

My hubs will be about 10mm thick once I have had the rear part built up - without doing this although strength is not a problem the studs are more likely to come loose apparently.
