Today was Finish the Lola prep for the hillclimb season.
Had a short ToDo list which was all done.
First off was a badly leaking ret slick tyre, brand new and fitted 3 weeks ago. Inflated all the tyres to 20 psi and wrapped them in black 'cling film'to keep the light off them.
At £350 each, you need to look after them, but i should get 150 miles life too.
The leak was amusing. The outside bead/wheel was a mass of soapy bubbles almost 360 degrees of them. £10 later and the local type place has re seated the one side and sealed it up. Holds 20 psi with no bubbles.
Task #2 was deeper.
It was time to wake the engine up, dormant since late Sept last year.
Fresh Shell E5, charge the battery (pointless as the charge was still 99.999% full) and switch the Facet pump ON.
Lots of buzzing and thuds and no fuel in the carbs after 20 secs.
Hmmm...
Tapped the running pump and a good belch of air passed through the filter and the carbs filled as per usual.
Stabbed the throttle twice..
Pressed the button...
Verrrrummme, the thing came to life on all 6, no exhaust smoke, just residual oils burning off the exhaust manifolds.
Settled to it's humming tick-over at 1200 rpm (deliberately high) and it slowly came up to temperature.
Killed the switching and it stopped almost instantly.
Nice.
Task #3 was all cosmetic but needed.
A deep clean was needed despite the cover being on the car all winter in the garage, dust and grime everywhere.
After a lot of hoovering (!) and much oily-rag pampering the base car looked good.
Body back on and washed down and waxed and the Championship decals stuck in place and the race number applied ready for Loton Park hill on the 19/20th April.
It is bound to rain, so that will undo all this hard graft!
So, all done, car's ready, driver's nearly ready and I have one class mate in the class, my old sparing mate Nigel in his hot V8 engined NG and after my blood.
He has never beaten me over all these years, but i feel he is close...
Objective this year is to win the Class in the Championship, not to have unwanted adventures, stay well on the black stuff and spend no money.
Fat chance.
