General feel on the market

I know many keep a close eye on the strength of the classic car market.

I don't buy and sell often, I've had my last two classics for 20yrs.

How does the cognoscenti see the market at present.

Due to recent back bother, sitting in the 912 is not great at present. I may consider selling.

Is now the right time? Matt

Has been slow this year, but hopefully will pick up now that some uncertainties are settling (government, interest rates etc)

2nd half of selling season for our cars is generally early Sept through to early Nov then it will go quiet until next spring.

As for is it the right time to sell, you’ll only ever find that out afterwards!

I'm in no hurry, and come next spring I may be healed. I still get the same thrill when I open the garage.

My other classic has a high seating position which is more comfortable at present.

In general, selling prices for most 'classics' are significantly down on what they were ~ 4/5 years ago but many potential sellers don't seem to accept this - hence there are a lot of cars (including 356 & 912) that have been on the market for a long time ...

This one has been on Ebay for a few weeks and being RHD thought it would have been snapped up. Prill have just done a full engine rebuild on it as well.
May give you a clue for pricing and also current market?

Summer goes quiet as a lot of potential buyers are tied up with family time or busy at work with colleagues on holidays etc.

I suspect that 356s taking longer to sell and prices falling has more to do with changing demographics

Yea, I had seen that one and thought it looked a decent example of the last year early body 912. Certainly better than some examples offered. I wouldn't be pricing mine that high I don't think despite being uk rhd, 1968, matching numbers etc.

I note Max has a couple for sale at present, so I guess a conversation with him would be wise as well.

Graph on BaT and prices on Collecting Cars look fairly consistent suggesting spread driven predominantly by condition/spec. Spread looks narrower in the UK (not much rhd data though)

Hugo, thanks for that. Nice to see some hard data. I don't tend to do BAT much because it is USA centric but the Glen march site is useful.
