Tyre sizing?
Hello,
Have no clue how this works, but?
I have 185/55s fitted to my car, I’ve noticed it’s riding a little high.
If I was to fit 185/70s would the wheel arches sit lower to the wheel?
Wheels are 15 in
Thanks Lee

Re: Tyre sizing?
.
The wheel arches wouldn't sit lower but there would be a smaller gap between the top of the tyre & the wheel arch.

Re: Tyre sizing?
The middle number is the percentage of the aspect ration of the tyre height, so 185 ’55’ means the height of the tyre is 55% the width of 185mm
185 ’70’ means the height of the tyre is 70% of the width.
So basically the 70 has a taller sidewall height than the 55, so will fill the wheel arch more.

Re: Tyre sizing?
and if you struggle to find a 185/70 in the price bracket you want , a 195/65 will give you there abouts the same tyre profile height.
I've run 195/65's on my car for 21 years

Re: Tyre sizing?
Been looking and if it’s definitely possible to run 195/65s I may option for Pirelli cinturato all season SF2 r15 95v XL tyres. £82 each.
Anyone tried them?

Re: Tyre sizing?
I’d only advocate for all seasons if you spend a lot of time driving at 7c or less. Otherwise it’s summers all the way.leedurrant73 wrote:Been looking and if it’s definitely possible to run 195/65s I may option for Pirelli cinturato all season SF2 r15 95v XL tyres. £82 each.

I’m also in the 195/65 camp since I first bought the car. I’m sure the 185/70 fan boys will be along shortly

Re: Tyre sizing?
If it is of any use then the Auto Express covered the Pirelli P7 last year in a tyre test with 10 others...........may change your mind, in view of some of the others?leedurrant73 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 1:59 pm Been looking and if it’s definitely possible to run 195/65s I may option for Pirelli cinturato all season SF2 r15 95v XL tyres. £82 each.
