Re: 914 : Road Trip to Italy
Well Mâcon has over delivered so far. The place we are staying in is attached to a nice coffee shop.
The room is very clean and modern.
This French town is very different to the Italy ones we visited. Clean and regenerated.

Re: 914 : Road Trip to Italy
I visited the car on my morning walk (weather a bit wet and cold) and noticed my tools at the back left of the boot were wet. Looks like the water is getting in via the light unit and travelling down? More inves needed when I get home. Hopefully some sealant will sort it out?

Super meal last night at Restaurant Pierre. It's had a star since 1997. There was a small team which was working quite hard. The food was of a very high standard. Then a 100 meter walk to be via the beautifully lit square.

Re: 914 : Road Trip to Italy
Looks like a great trip Neil. I took my 997 to the Italian Riviera back in August 2013. One memory was the Autostrada on the way home from Genoa to Milan, where we ended up in convoy with a Milano registered Aston Martin Vantage, which led to 3 figure speeds the whole way. I figured that he would know about the local speed enforcement situations! Its surprising how many tight turns appear on a motorway when you are pressing on. All the traffic moved to the right when approaching from behind, and it all felt totally safe. How unlike motorway driving in the UK.
Which way did you go back across the Alps? Ww went down over the St. Bernard, and back over the Splunga on that occasion. Much more fun than the tunnels.

We took the tunnels!
Today we drove 4 hours to Reims. We aren't champagne fans but might try some.
Lots of rain for 3 hours then 45mins of dry driving at the end. Unfortunately, I found more water in the boot. A pair of undies was sacrificed to dry it.
Before leaving Macon I happen upon the local market. Baguette, goat cheese and ham for lunch!

Try and find one of the lesser known champagne houses or try what the locals drink in the restaurants / bars .

De Castellane do a good tour and it’s not silly money for the bubbles either
Re: 914 : Road Trip to Italy
That’s epernay though … if your going there, there is also Mercier that have a little underground train you ride around the cellars

Quick stop via Arras to visit the Wellington Tunnels. Well worth an hour of your time if you are in the area. I'm guessing others have read Sebastian Faulks Bird Song so the horror of tunneling in WW1 is know.
After a very fine meal two nights ago we couldn't find a restaurant near the tunnels in Arras so we're reduced to a takeaway pizza from a vending machine. A couple of bikers were fueling themselves too. Rather them than us in this weather.
After from a mare on the M1 we had a smooth journey home.
