Brake fluid reservoir cleaning

Anyone managed to make an original reservoir vaguely white again?

I’ve tried brake cleaner and clean cloths, tempted by the dishwasher but don’t want to melt it!

Any ideas?

In the past I've used a Stanley knife blade to scrape along the raised edges followed by cleaning the exterior using a Brillo pad & hot water - didn't return it to looking new but made a significant improvement.

I would leave it to soak overnight in a bleach / warm water mix - that often works well.

I had success on brake reservoir and washer bottles with neat bleach and gentle use of very fine wire wool.

I’ve done the Stanley blade and hot wash today followed by a dunk in a Oxywhite solution as I didn’t have any bleach!

I’d say probably 70% better. Bleach arriving tomorrow for stage two.

If in doubt, I reach for Jiff (or Cif for the young’ uns). The light grit in it seems to fix many a problem…

I decided to skip the final bleach stage as once dried it didn’t look too bad. It’s now on the car so it’s done.
