Sad news : Dessie Nutt , one of my fellow historic rally men
Am just hearing tonight (oddly via America) that Dessie has died - probably best known for his SWB 911 Rallying exploits. When I started competing against him. he was in his red mini AIL 3300 (which he subsequently lent me to do the Manx in, many years later !!) , he bought his Yellow 911 soon after that - guess 1997 ish ... which he was still rallying ...... very sad day for me , and lots of others.

Re: Sad news : Dessie Nutt , one of my fellow historic rally
That is sad, and a bit too close to home…..
Dessie was very active in QUB Motor Club, I remember him with various Minis during my short time at University.
His yellow 911 was the car to beat for years in classic rallying.

Never met him, but he was a Derry man and a Porsche lover, so we had lots in common. May he rest in peace.

Re: Sad news : Dessie Nutt , one of my fellow historic rally
Sorry to hear this.
He rallied his 911 at the same time as the prior owner of my car (Terry Brown) rallied it
See them both here - 28secs is Dessie and then my car (HDE102D) follows straight after…

Sad news. Watching him rally was one of the things that got me interested in 911s and I'm sure many others.

I'm not aware that Dessie had actually hung up his driving gloves in 2019 - if he had , he or his navigator, certainly didn't tell me ... I think it was more a case of Covid struck , and the rest is part of history ............ sniff.Hugo 356 wrote:Obituary on Tuthill's web site is worth a read "ten miles of Tarmac is better than a night with any girl!"
